You'll notice that the widespread calls to respect Ukrainian "agency" and to "listen to Ukrainians" suddenly go quiet when Ukrainians don't want to fight this war.

This kind of talk was everywhere for ~1.5 years. A few specific examples are listed in the opening paragraph of this piece. Go have a look and see what those commentators have said about scenes like this, if anything at all. newleftreview.org/sidecar/posts/…
@BMarchetich "Listen to the Ukrainian left!"
@BMarchetich @KyleDChurch “He was provoked and only wants peace”
@BMarchetich @I_Katchanovski It was the same when the US State Dept hand-picked their government. Not too much concern about Ukrainian sovereignty then.
@BMarchetich @DavidSacks Funny how the narrative changed: The Ukraine War is no longer to "protect democracy"; because if it was put to a vote the Ukrainians would choose peace by an overwhelming majority. Nobody wants to die for a lost cause!
@BMarchetich Ukrainians who are not aligned with Western elite's interests are basically worse than Russians to them. We are not even supposed to exist.
