The Persian Gulf Strait Authority, which controls maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, has announced that ships must submit requests at least 48 hours before arrival. The authority said all transit fees will be waived for 60 days.
One phrase stands out in today’s statements by senior Iranian officials: the “Resistance Front” — a reference to Hezbollah. This once again suggests that Iran’s red lines have expanded to include Lebanese Hezbollah. President Pezeshkian, Qalibaf (Chief negotiator) and Iran’s Supreme National Security Council all issued statements today, reassuring Mojtaba Khamenei that they would defend the rights of the Iranian people and the Resistance Front. Iran’s most recent attack on Israel, on 7 June 2026, was not retaliation for an attack on Iran itself, but a response to Israeli military action in Lebanon and in defence of Hezbollah. These questions now loom: Can Iran pressure Washington to push Israel out of Lebanon? Will Israel tolerate Iran rearming Hezbollah once the guns fall silent? And if Israel resumes operations against Hezbollah, will Iran retaliate by directly attacking Israel?
Pakistan, which has been mediating between the US and Iran, says it expects an agreement to be finalised in the next twenty-four hours. But Tehran is more cautious, saying a signing is possible but in the coming days.

The only non-British flags at today’s "Unite the Kingdom" rally in London were pre-revolutionary Iranian flags (featuring the royal emblem), alongside some US and Israeli flags. All were carried by Iranian monarchists protesting alongside far-right British groups. These Iranian demonstrators, many immigrants or asylum seekers, sympathize with Tommy Robinson’s anti-immigration and anti-Islam messaging, and support US/Israeli military action against Iran.
