"It's both a failure of regulation and definitely a failure of corporate governance." Commenting on the crisis engulfing Thames Water, economist Marianna Mazzucato says that "neither nationalisation nor privatisation" are the "utopian" answers. #Newsnight
@BBCNewsnight Stealing of utter failing
@BBCNewsnight @lostindisco Why is mutualization of one company, in one industry sector of a country being called ‘nationalisation”? It’s surely just a ‘company bailout’, all be a multifaceted very embarrassing ‘bailout’, of a very large and important company providing critical infrastructure services? 😐
@BBCNewsnight @PJDunleavy Regulation rarely works, at least in Britain. Regulatory agencies too often end up being under-funded, watered down and captured by the industries they are supposed to be regulating. Regulation isn't enough. Private UK water companies need to be publicly owned.
@BBCNewsnight Did anyone ask Redwood about his plans to privatise the NHS?
@BBCNewsnight Why on earth didn't you get someone from @We_OwnIt on the show?
@BBCNewsnight This is nonsense. Water supply should never be in private hands. It's not about economics.
@BBCNewsnight @MazzucatoM Deregulation without no regulation is never good for the common good of living environment.
@BBCNewsnight Look at the dividends paid out over the years. We've been shafted by Tory economic nonsense.
@BBCNewsnight @Equality_4all62 Regulation and corporate governance have failed because of privatisation. This really shouldn’t be difficult for Mazzucato to understand.
