Two mask designs have been awarded $150,000 each as winners of the #MaskInnovationChallenge Phase 2 from BARDA, @NIOSH, & @NIST. Read the #BARDAStory about the designs from winners @Air99_LLC & @readimask, as well as runners-up @flo_mask & @LeviStraussCo: ow.ly/sVK950LEPit
@BARDA @NIOSH @NIST @Air99_LLC @readimask @flo_mask @LeviStraussCo I may be mistaken about the Levi design being reusable. It is scalable. The aim was a low-cost mask using simple materials and "a simplified assembly process" to leverage "the global fashion industry as an alternative supply channel" to rapidly produce effective masks.
@BARDA @NIOSH @NIST @Air99_LLC @readimask @flo_mask @LeviStraussCo The Airgami mask is so innovative, with a average filtration rate of 99% and reusability and other benefits like less muffling of voice and less fogging of glasses, $24 a piece is not so expensive. I do hope the cost will come down as it reaches more people.
@BARDA @NIOSH @NIST @readimask @flo_mask @LeviStraussCo I also like ReadiMask, with an average filtration rate of 99.7% and most importantly, the guarantee of a perfect seal. Nice that it comes with an eye shield option. It's expensive though for everyday use. For circumstances that require good protection it's definitely worth it.
@BARDA @HHSGov @NIOSH @NIST @Air99_LLC @readimask @flo_mask @LeviStraussCo How many viruses are BARDA, DARPA, DTRA & CDC planning to aerosolize and spray out onto communities in the coming 12 months? Let's ask Rick Bright if he thinks it's sexy.
