No, I don't think the nature of the crime is relevant as long as they BELIEVE the phone holds evidence of a crime. It's interesting to note that the police can search a private home for a phone if the phone is hidden. Yes, social media posts although sometimes in poor taste, get much tougher sentences than attempted rape of a minor etc as those cases are often bailed. Viewing but not replying to social media posts they don't like will also get you arrested in some circumstances. Although most never make the news there is an interesting case of Heather Herbert who wrote an awful post on the deceased Ann Widdicombe and has been arrested for it. Our social media laws are some of the strictest in the world and the arrests are off the scale high.
@SuryaSankar90 @BigDaz300 @TheWyteRabbit1 Don't need a warrant if they believe the phone is evidence or holds evidence of a crime and if that phone is inside private property as in this case they don't need a warrant to get it. This is widely used to gain lawful access to people's private property.
