2023 would be a fantastic year for Congress to pass every piece of legislation introduced to save & stimulate the Creative Economy/Arts & Culture sector in the last 3 years. Passed together, they would amount to an Arts "New Deal" that would usher in a great American renaissance.

I'd like to offer this: if artists are not paid a living wage to rehearse and develop their work, opportunities are more accessible to those who have the capacity to develop work for free: those with family money, a supportive partner, without family obligations.

inevitably I will get a response from someone like "well theater isn't really a job in the traditional sense so you can't expect it to pay you." I'm sorry but this is longterm copium disorder, there is no non-ideological reason for why being an artist can't be a livable vocation
