@anonmissionaryB I remember being sent to "evangelism camp" where they had all of us teenagers driven in vans to public parks where we were told to give popsicles to children in exchange for listening to us tell them "a story." The camp would announce our conversion numbers and the winning teams.
Anyway, happy #NationalComingOutDay2022 to everyone who came out and especially to everyone who could not. You are seen and loved by God. #faithfullylgbtq
I left the conversation stunned and moved. If it weren't for the content, it was the kind of bizarre coincidence my parents would've called "a God thing." I felt so affirmed. I couldn't post on social media, but I'd been visible to the one person who needed my queerness that day.
I remember the #NationalComingOutDay I'd planned to come out on. Just days before, shit happened that meant it wasn't safe for me to be out. That Oct 11 I felt invisible and depressed. I took a walk outside. A door-to-door salesman called after me to grab my attention (1/4)
Within moments I was supplying him with books, blogs, and my entire ex-ex gay testimony about becoming an affirming Christian while he took notes and asked questions. His sincere desire to reconcile his faith with his child's identity was palpable.
Long, confusing conversation short: He'd noticed I "looked queer" and wanted to talk. An unnerving start but he seemed earnest so I asked what he wanted to know. "Are you a person of faith?" he asked. "Yeah, I am," I said surprised. "I'm Catholic," he said, "and my son is gay."

I feel wildly privileged to have a good employer now—that has not always been the case, and I know how it feels to be physically unsafe and uncared for in your workplace. It makes work unbearable.
The pain in my body cleared, and I could focus on my tasks. Every time I felt the panic rise, I reminded myself of the options my company gave me and was able to get back to work. Just in case any employers don’t think providing abortion care benefits makes a difference.
On Friday I had a panic attack—I couldn’t even sit up without blacking out, so I had to stop working. On Monday our CEO announced the company would provide PTO + travel/lodging for any employee seeking an abortion. 1/2
If you believe queer people go to hell, you have to admit that the shooter’s actions are less cruel and torturous than what God planned to do with those people. Ideas have consequences.
Ever since remembering #pulsenightclub yesterday I can’t stop thinking about the fact that the same Christians who say “of course I don’t believe they deserved to die in a mass shooting” also believe they deserved eternal conscious torment after being killed in the mass shooting.
If any other queer folks are spending Thanksgiving alone or dreading spending it with family, I’m with you 💛
