On the upside, we currently have legal precedent in the U.S. that says you can't copyright the outputs. The real problem is that they can see your outputs, and your inputs, allow you to build something with their system. Then they make their own version and shut off your access.
Now you have to buy `thing` from them and can no longer use their LLM to build it yourself. It's the Microsoft model with built in telemetry from the start, or Amazon's model of seeing what sells and making their own version and promoting it with Amazon Basics.
Chat is a loss-leader.
@ClonanBradley@PalantirTech *steganography
Stenography is just writing things down word for word. Steganography is a technique for hiding information inside other information.
My spell-checker doesn't know the word either, so I'm guessing this got auto-corrected on you.
@Fourtwizzy@PalantirTech No, it's literally saying "train your own models," which no tech company wants to hear. This is becoming the software equivalent of own your own chip fab. Really hard in the context of Wall Street short-termism, but required for enduring turbulent market change-over.
@peppersagooddog@BlackDumpling Do you mean sympathy?
Having no empathy means you cannot understand their perspective. It's theory of mind.
Sympathy is to "feel bad for." The Left has distorted the meaning of those words badly enough, so I have no sympathy for the wrong usage, but can understand it.
@NickJFreitas@em_Lazzy In this case, these are simply workers in the reeducation camp. Of course he wants to spend money on that, how else will get his Communist Youth League?
No, Dear Dumpling. I deal with this constantly, it is the developer impulse to throw the existing system away and write a new one from scratch.
The moment you destroy the tension between the branches of government, you get empire, not the next republic.
We threw off the chains of monarchy (an Anniversary we celebrate on Saturday) with the express goal of building a system that Ben Franklin warned us would require maintenance. Let's do the maintenance. This means defeating RINOs in primaries, it means opposing the rigged election machinery in California and elsewhere. It means continuing to defund NGO-boomerang-slush-funds that power Democrat campaigns. It means recovering the education system from the Marxist reeducation camps they've become.
But I disagree with you that the only way to do this to burn it all down.
Remember that post you made about women's fantasies being to succeed through persistence and long-suffering. Well, that's what's called for here. The long persistent slog. Not the impulsive "let's have a revolution!" That's their game plan. Don't hand it to them on a platter.
How to ban communism, globalism and all their derivatives.
Simple.
Treat them the same way we treat every ideology that turned mass murder into a political program.
Communism is not an “opinion.”
It is not a cute student aesthetic.
It is not compassion.
It is not justice.
It is the deadliest political experiment in modern history.
USSR.
China.
Cambodia.
North Korea.
Ethiopia.
Eastern Europe.
Vietnam.
Cuba.
Afghanistan.
Everywhere the same pattern:
Promise equality.
Destroy property.
Destroy religion.
Destroy the family.
Destroy free speech.
Create a party-state.
Create secret police.
Create camps.
Create famine.
Kill millions.
The Black Book of Communism estimated more than 94 million deaths under communist regimes, including roughly 65 million in China, 20 million in the Soviet Union, 2 million in Cambodia, 2 million in North Korea, 1.7 million in Ethiopia, and more across Vietnam, Eastern Europe, Afghanistan and Latin America. Other institutions, including the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, use the figure of 100+ million victims. Estimates vary by methodology, but the moral conclusion does not. (Wikipedia)
The Great Leap Forward alone is commonly estimated in the tens of millions of deaths, with scholarly ranges often around 15 to 55 million depending on methodology. (Wikipedia)
The Holodomor killed millions of Ukrainians; one demographic study cited by the University of Minnesota puts the figure around 3.9 million for 1932–33. (College of Liberal Arts)
Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge killed around a quarter of its population.
This is not an accident.
This is the product.
So here is the rule:
If your party openly defends communism, Marxist revolution, violent class war, dictatorship of the proletariat, abolition of private property, or one-party rule, it should not be treated as a normal democratic party.
It should be treated as a political organization promoting a totalitarian ideology.
Same standard as fascism.
Same standard as Nazism.
Same standard as every movement that turns human beings into material for an ideological machine.
You can debate taxes.
You can debate welfare.
You can debate regulation.
But you should not be allowed to build a party around an ideology that has already produced gulags, famines, purges, mass surveillance, slave labor camps and 100 million corpses.
Communism should be displayed in schools, museums and public memory for what it was:
A totalitarian death cult.
Not “idealism.”
Not “social justice.”
Not “theory.”
A crime scene.
Ban communist parties.
Ban revolutionary Marxist organizations.
Ban political movements that call for the destruction of constitutional liberty.
And teach every child the names of the victims.
Because a civilization that forgets the bodies buried under utopia will eventually build the same prison again.
He doesn't care about "eradicating White people," he cares about destabilizing Western society to topple governments because it's fun.
His Open Society papers literally spell out what he planned to do and what the outcomes would be. This included creating a society that was easier for him to control.
That's what he cares about.
Stories last longer.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf
Aesop's Fables
Crime and Punishment
Moby Dick
All of these are more effective and durable than "just say it." These stories make us understand by making us feel it.
The deaths in War and Peace are all unique, they all land on the reader differently. Good fiction does things that reference, biography, and popular science books cannot. Even the best non-fiction books often tell stories, because that's how our brains work.
Science Fiction and Fantasy (the good stuff) are vehicles for ideas. Sometimes wrong ideas, but they give you things to chew on.
If you tell me that most science fiction is crap, I will refer you to Sturgeon's Law.
It's fine that you don't enjoy fiction, but declaring it a waste of everyone's time is not only wrong, but an attitude to be pitied. Just as someone appreciating music for more than whether you can dance to it, or appreciating paintings or sculptures, the craft of storytelling in fiction often educates better than any of the books you listed in your response to Madison.
Hyperion, the Culture series, Asimov's robot stories... all of them are examinations of who we are, and while you don't have to like them, you're wrong to tell other people that they shouldn't like them either.
This would be stupid on the part of educated consumers. Every single subscription service offered over the internet has gotten drastically worse as it "succeeds." Short-term profit incentives drive decisions that turn customers into "resources" to be mined for advertisers.
Eventually, games that a small but dedicated core of paying users enjoy will be killed off because they aren't as profitable to the advertisers. "It's just economics."
Live-service games will continue to get crappier and crappier. I tend to avoid them. BG3, X4 Foundations... sign me up for those. Larian and Egosoft respect their customers and are not extractive.
Cloud gaming is Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. This time, no really, it won't be yanked away...
@brokebull@ThePrimeagen Because programming is not engineering, it's persuading machines to sort of do something along the lines of what was requested.
