We asked Americans what they want government's role to be when it comes to AI. Overall, people said they want government to do more to protect kids, jobs, and the environment. But when it comes to the US's competitiveness on AI in relation to other countries like China, opinion is much more split.
Nearly 7 in 10 Americans believe AI will be, or already is, used to create weapons of mass destruction: • 47% say it's likely in the next 20 years. • 23% believe it's already happening. New polling from @AmericansOnAI shows just how seriously Americans view AI's national security risks.
Even before OpenAI announced that it lost control of two of its models, Americans were concerned about just this possibility. --> 77% of people last week said that they believed AI was likely to behave in ways its developers didn't intend, or that this had already happened.
AI has a diploma divide. Based on data from our two most recent surveys, people with a college degree are more likely to say that AI is negatively impacting jobs & kids, while those without a college degree are relatively more likely to say that AI is making household finances worse.
New data: Despite the CEOs of leading AI companies changing their tune on the potential of AI-induced job loss, Americans continue to feel negatively about AI's impact on the workforce. 79% of Americans now say that AI is making job security worse for families, up from 74% two weeks ago.

What do college students booing commencement speakers and protestors organizing against data centers have in common? A feeling of a loss of control. And they're not alone. A new nationwide poll finds that 65% of Americans are concerned about AI, while only 24% are excited. The public has made it clear: as AI reshapes society at every level, policymakers can no longer wait to put meaningful safeguards in place. @AmericansOnAI
