The striking contradiction is that Jon Krakauer himself joined the 1996 Everest expedition as a paying client, becoming part of the same commercialization he later condemned in Into Thin Air. So why did his account become a global bestseller, while The Climb, written by Anatoli Boukreev, arguably the strongest high-altitude mountaineer of that era remained less recognized?

Gone on this day, 11.01.2008; Sir Edmund Hillary, climber from New Zealand, who made first ascents of several 6000ers and 7000ers, but is best known for the first ascent of Mt Everest (8848.86 m) in 1953 together with his Nepali companion Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. He also drove a farm tractor to the South Pole in 1958. In 1985 he also had a flight trip to the North Pole with Neil Armstrong. He died on this day, aged 88. Photo ©: David Roberts ARPS.

The rock that comprises the "summit pyramid" or uppermost part of Mount Everest is gray marine limestone, which means the summit was actually on the seafloor 470 million years ago.

‼️Everest Camp 4 ‼️ Tenzi Sherpa upset and sad, recorded this video. It is at Camp 4 (at 7,950m) of Everest. The agencies cut their logos of the tents, so that they can’t be identified. Tenzi asks the government to fine the agencies that cause this damage. I support Tenzi
