MLB announced that “earlier today” their department of investigations “began their formal process investigating the matter” involving Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhari.
MLB is expected to request interviews with Shohei Ohtani and Ippei Mizuhara, but there’s no guarantee they’ll get to. More on MLB’s investigation here, from @TJQuinnESPN … espn.com/mlb/story/_/id…
My understanding is that — unless something dramatic happens — Shohei Ohtani will remain on the Dodgers’ active roster and will continue to play while MLB’s investigation unfolds. (1/2)
Administrative leave only applies to the domestic-violence policy. There are other teller purses, but the fact Ohtani himself hasn’t been accused of gambling, and that there’s no evidence any party gambled on baseball, probably helps him under MLB’s scope at this point. (2/2)
@Alden_Gonzalez @JeffPassan They are allowing a player that was betting on baseball to stay on a roster? Let Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame
@Alden_Gonzalez If he was in a Brewers uniform he’d be banned for life
@Alden_Gonzalez @JeffPassan This is how it should be done and also how Trevor Bauer’s case should have been handled.
@Alden_Gonzalez @JeffPassan Yeah, it like Shohei Ohtani will stay on the Dodgers' active roster and keep playing while MLB investigates. It'll be interesting to see how everything unfolds.
@Alden_Gonzalez @JeffPassan Nice to know #Ohtani 🙂
