NPR news chief defends newsroom’s record after senior editor says network has 'lost America's trust' - my story on @uberliner’s essay npr.org/2024/04/09/124…
@davidfolkenflik @neelaeast @uberliner Mr. Folkenflik, seems NPR leadership team defends lack of viewpoint diversity as acceptable. Did I read that correctly?
@NathanDallon @neelaeast @uberliner I don’t speak for network, but my read is that chief news executive says a) diversity of opinion is welcome and present b) we are open for criticism Uri would disagree.
@davidfolkenflik @NathanDallon @neelaeast @uberliner I gotta say, the ability of an NPR employee to write a scathing (and, I think, ill founded) essay and still keep his job kinda undermines the essay's premise.
@davidfolkenflik @NathanDallon @neelaeast @uberliner During the reign of Gerry Baker at WSJ, many, many employees would have LOVED to write an essay exoriating him, with ample evidence, as a partisan right wing hack undermining journalistic values. Yet people needed to remain employed.
@AlanZibel @davidfolkenflik @NathanDallon @neelaeast @uberliner You make it sound like NPR published it.
@AlanZibel @davidfolkenflik @NathanDallon @neelaeast @uberliner His premise seemed to be that 1) NPRs "diversity" is purely for photographic purposes 2) it doesn't seem to have made the listener base more diverse and 3) this might have to do with the editorial compromises it has made since the election of Trump.
