last time i was here i told you i'm back and new music was coming soon. meridian dropped and then it went quiet again. so this time let me properly explain instead of just disappearing. --- fears my income from music has been going down for a while now. making a living off this has slowly gotten harder, and at some point that quiet little worry in the back of my head just got overwhelming. a big part of meridian, the whole comeback really, came from that fear. i came back partly because i was scared. scared of fading out, scared of what happens if i don't. so i gave myself a release schedule, posted everywhere, tried to keep up. and somewhere in there it stopped feeling like making music and started feeling a business. --- easy solution the obvious moves were right there. drop some merch. do a nova vinyl. lean on the nostalgia a bit. and i do want to do those one day, genuinely. but doing them right now, just because i'm scared about money, felt like the wrong reason. i want to make that stuff when it comes from a real place, not when i'm reaching for a quick way out. --- revelation i've been pulled in a thousand directions this year and it's been a lot. but sitting with all of it, something finally clicked that i'd had backwards for years: my drive isn't to make music specifically. it's to create. music was just the first thing that let me do that, and for the longest time i thought they were the same thing. they're not. --- what i'm building so for now, i'd rather put that energy into building something useful. a tool for music producers. i'm not gonna say what it is yet. but it's the most alive i've felt working on anything in ages. and the reason is simple: i want something that can support me, so making music gets to stay something i love, not something i'm scared of. --- so what's next? where is the next song? not dead. i promise. i'm still doing this. i just want the next track to come from wanting to make it, not from panic. the music's always better when it comes from there anyway. thanks for sticking around while i figure my life out lol. love you guys. ~arjen
