He hissed when first approached with treats on the scratcher tool, but then sniffed them and began eating them, and then allowed petting with the tool. On a second approach, he hissed again, but this time sniffed the treats in the assessor's hand and began eating them and allowed petting on his head. He needs time to continue warming up. Winter tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Hi, my name is Winter and the shelter has been a little overwhelming for me. I came from a home with many cats, who I've gotten along with well. Because I've lived in this home my entire life and have only been around one person, I have little experience with people and am hesitant of new experiences. I would enjoy living in a quiet home, preferably one with lots of vertical space so I have a place to perch and observe the room. I would also appreciate having experienced, patient adopter(s) who are willing to take things slow with me. I would benefit from socialization, using rewards whenever I make a small positive step like making eye contact, allowing petting, or sniffing your hand. I'd prefer to take things at my own pace and would appreciate some good old fashion TLC. Some things I do enjoy here are crunchy treats and soft talk. He's currently staying in our medical wing because of some medical needs, hence the crate and bed, but Fluffy seems to emphatically say with every chirp, nuzzle and headbunt that these are just things and what he really wants are friends. A terrifically social senior gentleman, he bounced around a little bit before arriving at his most recent guardian where he was a friendly and quiet couch potato, playing when interested but with a sweet gentleness. Fluffy's now with us looking for a forever home and he's hoping that you'll come in and visit him soon. Fluffy interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems.
