A sign of wisdom is thinking in probabilities rather than certainties. Naïve people are arrogant. They claim to know what will definitely happen, and believe they're always right. Wise people are humble. They explore what might happen, and admit they're often wrong.
@AdamMGrant It this uncertain world, filled with randomness, Thinking in scenarios is helpful.
@AdamMGrant Confident people believe that the odds are based on average people...and are wise enough to know that they have a real shot to beating those odds, because they are not average.
@AdamMGrant It's not binary. There are also a mix of the two, for example Steve Jobs was both arrogant and wise.
@AdamMGrant Ironically stated with great certainty.
@AdamMGrant @hnshah "the more I learn about any given topic, the more I realize how little I really know" 💯
I always find that the wisest people I know look at a situation, event or issue and they are asking questions (to seek understanding) .. not making blanket virtue signaling statements. Almost never. The sad part is the majority of people ignore those questions. Because they don't want to be bothered with the answers they might find. For the people that ask questions - thinking in probabilities tends to signal they've already done the math, examined the variables and placed a bet.
@AdamMGrant Humble WINS. - Live in the present. - Create great habits. - Choose to compete.
@AdamMGrant I once worked under a manager who told me that "he's never wrong." 🤦♂️
@AdamMGrant I think you are probably right on that. :-)
