We are 45,000 trained nurses short in England/Wales. The private sector isn’t going to change that. Whatever model you prefer (I prefer the nhs for reasons of efficiency and effectiveness - historically) we need to train more doctors nurses, and retain them through better pay >
The media and political class is addicted to talking points from 30 years ago (“the private sector can sort this and I’m brave enough to say so!”) It literally can’t. It’s 2024, not 1994!
@AaronBastani The only solution you'll be offered is to import nurses from Africa. Because the government is trying to replace the population of the west with the population of Africa and the middle East.
@AaronBastani We need to bring back bursaries.
@AaronBastani Maybe get into colleges and convert the Hair & Beauty, drama & sociology courses into nursing courses for a start.
@AaronBastani We also need to address the elephant in the room

@AaronBastani Why is the answer always more money and rarely try a different model. For example, remove tuition fees on nursing / medical degrees.
@AaronBastani Create an education system where at 14 students can choose a National Engineering or Healthcare pathway, with guaranteed paid apprenticeship starting age 16.
@AaronBastani I agree, but please don't forget that there are over 100 professions working the NHS. These two groups constitute only just over a third of the total workforce. We need an increase in all staff groups such as Biomedical Scientists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists etc.
