Still in Kraków, presenting at the GENOMICA Student Conference of Genetics. A vibrant community of undergraduate & graduate researchers. I was truly impressed by quality of their work, especially the posters—hearing students explain their work was energizing.

Today in Kraków, I shared a proposed mechanism of TLT-1 function linking in vitro findings with in vivo data at Instytut Farmakologii im. Jerzego Maja, Polish Academy of Science. Excited about the potential for collaborations ahead. #ScienceCollaboration #TLT1

Thankful for the opportunity to present at the at #HTRS2025 this week on how TLT-1 nucleates clot formation in the presence of low levels of #platelet agonist. This mechanism could open new avenues for therapeutic strategies in coagulation disorders.

Our new publication @of_therapeutic TLT-1 plays a pivotal role by binding fibrinogen. Our assay identified 80 potent inhibitors to significantly reduce TLT-1 binding (80%) Promising avenue to combat thrombosis associated with cardiovascular disease. jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/early/…

Implications of this study: platelets may prevent the exacerbation of ferroptosis-associated diseases dependent on CLEC-2; platelets bind different types of iron substances ➡️platelets may play a significant role in the regulation of pathophysiological iron homeostasis.

BDUC (bleeding disorder of unknown cause ) patients show reduced platelet adhesion/ thrombus formation.➡️ To diagnose BDUC, platelet light transmission aggregometry should be performed as a minimum assessment. Platelet transfusions can be a potential treatment option.
