And that’s a wrap on the first ever #AtlanticATSummit! A big thank you goes out to our illuminating speakers, our supportive sponsors, our dedicated organizing committee, all of the volunteers, and everyone who came out who helped make this a truly special event!
Engaged volunteers, Rails to Trails networks, using key corridors, and providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to walk, roll, and cycle are the key ingredients to a successful trail project in #NovaScotia.

Recapitalizing a trail is an intense process and requires money, time, and people power. Rick from St Margaret’s Bay Area Rails to Trails group tells the story of how they achieved success to resurface 32.5km of trail including 6 bridge decks.
“The water is part of who we are.” @NSShoreAT is working to build greenway connections between the Shore’s natural assets and key destinations. How else are you going to get your lobster home?
And who do you see on the trails? Seniors. Kids. Every day. A true all-ages-and-abilities experience.
What do Nova Scotians want from their trails? They want separated trails that allow them to access green spaces by walking, rolling, or cycling.
One of the key insights from the #AtlanticATSummit Community of Practice session: engage early and often with staff and stakeholders on your AT initiatives. Collaboration can be fostered by developing shared priorities and understanding each other’s needs. @whitfieldk8

What if some of our rural and small town roads looked like this? Simple concept, road wide enough for two way travel, but cars yield/wait to pass those in bike lane. Just paint, and possibly folly lake aggregate needed to colour side lanes. @ATSummit @bicyclens
Our rates of cycling are relatively low compared to other countries but we know that many Canadians want to ride more often and would if we had the right kind of bike lanes to support it. @sflkirk from @Canada_Bikes presenting on their push for a National Cycling Strategy.
