America the beautiful. Alex Garland's CIVIL WAR opens in theaters and @IMAX April 12.
This movie predicts that East Coast and Midwest states would remain loyal to fedgov and fight to keep 4 separate new countries in the Union: TX, CA, "The Florida Alliance" (Dixie), and the "Western Forces." Why wouldn't the East Coast be happy to have a union with every blue state, even though the country wouldn't be contiguous? They could make free-passage agreements with a federation of red states (and Texas) so that the red states would not be allowed to interfere with transportation of people and goods from one blue state to the other. My prediction of the peaceful split of the US is shown on the right. It assumes that Texas or Louisiana announces an independence date, and then other red states decide that it's better to join them than to remain in a country that can't elect conservative presidents anymore (lacking Texas' electoral votes).
@A24 @IMAX Since 1945, 87% of secessions have been peaceful (out of 134 secessions). A poll found that only 7% of Americans think fedgov should attack a seceding state. Here's why it won't: redstatesecession.org/many-ruling-cl…
