Today’s Kenyan parliament session on BATUK crimes was held behind closed doors. UK representatives were invited, but Esther Njoki, niece of the late Agnes Wanjiru, was denied access for an UNKNOWN reason. No victims of British soldiers, human rights defenders or lawyers were allowed in. It seems authorities are deliberately hiding interactions with foreign troops. The question is: why is the parliament, which MUST be open and transparent to Kenyan citizens, engaging in secret deals with those accused of crimes? What are they trying to hide? Fourteen years we’ve waited for justice for Agnes Wanjiru, who was murdered by British soldiers in Nanyuki in 2012. But no one has been prosecuted. In our own country, our police are powerless because of the Defence Cooperation Agreement with the UK. Why are we being treated as slaves in our own country? The people of Nanyuki, Laikipia, and all Kenya must decide the terms of any British military presence. Full transparency is non‑negotiable. Our lives depend on it. Several Kenyans are now complaining of police extortion after @ntsa_kenya failed to issue KDY number plates for weeks, leaving motorists exposed to harassment on the roads. We strongly condemn the horrifying use of live ammunition against unarmed students at Multimedia University. University campuses and dormitories should be sanctuaries of learning, not war zones where plainclothes police officers roam freely and fire at innocent youth. Four students were shot and severely injured during recent demonstrations. These are our children, our siblings and the future of this country. It is completely unacceptable that when Kenyans step out to exercise their constitutional right to protest, they are met with brutal, lethal force by the very security agencies meant to protect them.

🇰🇪🇺🇸 | Kenyan police shot dead a protester as hundreds demonstrated against a US quarantine facility in Nanyuki. The facility is for US nationals exposed to Ebola. Not for Kenyans. The protester was shot in the head and at least 19 people were arrested, according to Reuters, at the site where the US is building a 50-bed unit at Laikipia Air Base. Kenya has no Ebola case of its own; the unit would hold US nationals exposed to the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. It runs on roughly KSh 1.68 billion — about USD 13 million in US aid. This is not the first killing: on 1 June police shot two protesters dead and arrested 31. Demonstrators call their country a "dumping ground" and have vowed to march until the plan is scrapped. Washington says it "cannot and will not allow" any cases to enter US territory. Kenyan President William Ruto calls the deal "mutually beneficial" — while his own police keep killing the Kenyans who refuse it.
