Democrats want to spend more and tax more. Republicans are fighting to change that. It's really that simple.
Kevin, drop the deceit👆; we're no fools. Repeatedly, the Democratic Congress and President Biden have called on you to rescind the $1.7 trillion in tax cuts handed to the mega-rich. Biden's fiscal proposal targets chopping deficits by a staggering $3 trillion in the forthcoming decade. Already, he's whittled down the deficit by over $1.7 trillion during his inaugural two years, an unrivaled feat in American history. The debt ceiling isn't about belt-tightening, Kevin. It's settling the tab for already incurred expenses. Dodging this, which is akin to shirking off your credit card bill while attempting to budget yourself, is a guaranteed path to account closure and a severe credit hit. Our tax dollars should uplift fellow citizens and children in distress, not subsidize the yachts and private jets of the super rich. Yet, the GOP's 2024 budget casually assigns over half of the discretionary spending, $885 billion, to defense, brutally axing social services budgets by 51%. This move will decimate essential services to fellow Americans who need it most. Fitch Ratings, a leading credit rating titan, warns of a possible downgrade to the US debt rating if the debt limit isn't raised. The revered 'AAA' status is on a precarious precipice, threatening a downgrade if legislative action isn't taken swiftly. Should agencies like Fitch actually demote America's credit standing, the blowback will be immense - heightened interest rates bleeding us dry by tens of trillions in years to come. Spare us the scare tactics. Settle the debt, then tackle the budget - a sequence you've managed 49 times before under Republican presidents, three times under Trump without a complaint. We've been trusting Republicans for more than three decades now, but the results have been devastating. Bill Clinton gave us a surplus of $63 billion when he left office. Then, the Bush era, under Republican leadership, got us into two unpaid wars that we couldn't afford and didn't need. By the time he was done, we had a $3.3 trillion deficit, a severe recession, a collapse of the housing and stock markets, and sky-high unemployment. Obama took over and spent lots of money to get us out of that recession, control unemployment, and save people's homes from being taken over by hedge fund vultures. He even left Trump with a growing economy. Trump, however, gave a massive $1.7 trillion in tax cuts to the wealthiest people, tried to take credit for Obama's work, and then couldn't handle his first major crisis as president. He left us with an extra $7.8 trillion added to our deficit, with not much to show for it except for 8 new miles of border wall, which Mexico was supposed to fund, and two impeachment proceedings in just his 4-year term. It's frustrating to think that Republicans in the House could have focused on issues like inflation, crime, and border security, which matter to everyday Americans as they promised. Instead, they've been busy conducting pointless investigations, for instance into gas stoves. It's high time you quit this reckless game of Russian roulette with our creditworthiness and livelihoods to thwart Biden. This 2024 electoral trick won't escape our memory, Kevin. Bet on that.
@4HumanUnity @SpeakerMcCarthy Republicans have always been the party of take from the poor to make sure the rich have more. Democrats need to stand their ground on this. Americans work their butts off to provide for their families. They shouldn't be forced to pay for the tax cuts of the wealthiest among us.
@4HumanUnity @SpeakerMcCarthy I hope you don’t mind and I’m asking for permission to copy what you wrote because I couldn’t add a letter to it and would like to post it in other places. Do I have your permission?
@4HumanUnity @SpeakerMcCarthy So perfectly said, and so spot on. I will share this is everyone needs to know this history and the relevancy to now. Bravo.
@4HumanUnity @SpeakerMcCarthy Raise the limit to pay our past bills and negotiate on the budget like you’re supposed to
