8/8 — Drift Awakening- We took her out at dusk. Empty lot on the edge of town. Fresh tires. The big block singing that deep, angry song through the side pipes. The blower whining like it was impatient to play. The first drift was messy and perfect all at once — opposite lock, tire smoke, that electric feeling when the car comes alive under your hands and starts talking to you. Eve took the second run and came out of it laughing so hard she could barely steer straight, hair coming loose from her bun. We ended up side by side in the middle of the lot, engine ticking as it cooled, both of us covered in tire dust and grinning like we’d just discovered fire. Eve reached over, took my hand, and squeezed it hard. We didn’t just build a car, she said, voice soft but certain. We built something that feels like freedom. I squeezed back and looked at her — really looked at her — with everything I felt written across my face. Then let’s keep chasing it, I said. 7/8 — First Breath- She took her first real breath tonight. The big block barked to life like it had been waiting 54 years for this exact moment. The blower whined that high, aggressive song. The side pipes crackled and popped like distant gunfire. The whole garage shook. We didn’t even make it outside before Eve lit up the tires in a controlled, glorious burnout that filled the entire space with thick white smoke and that perfect, sweet smell of burning rubber and victory. When the smoke cleared enough to see, she was looking at me through the haze, laughing so hard she could barely catch her breath, eyes shining brighter than I’d ever seen them. "She’s awake," Eve said, voice full of wonder and joy. I could only nod, my own chest tight with everything we’d built together. We both knew it was true. ☁️🌬️
