Google closed XMPP gateway a few years back. Now Slack stops cooperating with other services on the net. This is another reminder that federation protocol must web-style, i.e. not requiring cooperative behaviour from servers.
Given @SlackHQ never made a real effort to make the XMPP gateway work properly, killing it is for the better. Claims that XMPP can't ensure security or support these features are simply a lie. Slack made a choice not to do it.
Come to #LibrePlanet 2018. We'll talk about spaces that users own, not servers, and how it is possible (hint 3N). Of cause, when you have de facto, true ownership of your space, you set privacy and security aspects in it the way you want.
