From my perspective, the tactical decision itself is not even up for debate. I love Martinelli, but I have no issue with the manager wanting to try someone else. That is totally fine. The problem is that a player who has served the club so well is dropped completely from the matchday squad without anyone even talking to him (according to Wright). That is really poor form, and that is what I have a problem with.

I personally love Martinelli, but I have zero issue with the boss wanting to try different profiles or move in another direction. The real issue is that a player who has served this club so loyally gets completely frozen out of matchday squads without anyone even having a conversation with him (as Wrighty confirmed). That is just terrible handling, and that is what I have a massive problem with.

@Worldchang2025 @orijakola None of us can claim to know 100% of what happens behind closed doors. But Wright literally said in his interview yesterday that he spoke directly with Martinelli, and Gabi told him he has no idea what is going on because nobody from the club has communicated anything to him.

You can claim I do not understand, and I can say the exact same about you. If you have class, you sit down with a dedicated player at the end of the season and tell them they are not in your plans, rather than freezing them out of matchday squads with zero communication. If you decide to drop an established, long-serving goalkeeper for someone else, you have a direct conversation with him. As a manager you answer to no one because you are the boss, but how you treat your people still speaks volumes about your character.

@_halfspaces On top of that, Madueke is practically our only player left with genuine explosive burst in behind, assuming Martinelli is already done here. That is honestly a bit concerning for our tactical balance.

@Isaac_notNewton Totally agree with this. That is my entire issue with pushing Martinelli out. We literally only have Madueke when it comes to explosive burst in behind, which is a massive problem. First because it is Madueke, and second because that leaves us with just one single player.

@Lacazest While I can accept that Gabriel Jesus does not have much left to offer, Martinelli does not deserve to be completely dropped from the bench. Firstly for purely footballing reasons, and secondly just out of basic respect.
