Why have the expenses of a horse since conception or yearling, only necessitating running for 50k or less to win, when purses are $80k. Half or more of the field is claimed, that stat alone tells you its not right

@maggimoss Amen. And the easiest way to solve part of it is to raise the claiming values. We claimed or first horse in 1993 for 10k. Since then purses have increased 6-7x, while the claiming values have hardly changed.

@SheaMizer @garypaljr I didn’t say no claiming. Two solutions are adjusting the claiming price relative to the purse, and having lower level handicap races like other parts of the world. Claiming levels have changed very little in the last 20 years, yet the cost of horses and upkeep have gone up a lot

@SheaMizer @garypaljr How long have you owned horses? We have owned since 1992. The claiming is in a death spiral reducing the crop sizes. Claimers think it’s great, until it isn’t. It’s like socialism, it works great, until it doesn’t.
