A Texas high school sent a Black student back to in-school suspension Tuesday for refusing to change his hairstyle, renewing a monthslong standoff over a dress code policy the teen’s family calls discriminatory. The 18-year-old student already has spent more than 80% of his junior year outside of his regular classroom.
@DailyLoud Fair to say, let students rock any hairstyle they choose, as far as they are paying attention in the class, other things shouldn’t matter
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud If we end up allowing these hairstyles at school, then it will follow through that they should accept it in the work environment right? Some companies will ask the same. Please change your hairstyle, will you lose the job beside of it?
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud Fair to say that’s not really how the real world works. How you show up matters snd following existing rules and norms matters.
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud Unless it's for religious reasons, you should conform to rules of school or work. This is why there are so many failed adults. They don't know how to follow rules, and their single mom doesn't know how to raise them.
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud Or, they could just...adhere to the dress code? Like can we as a society not follow the most basic rules now?
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud It’s called a dress code and every student has to adhere to it. He isn’t special cause he’s black. It’s a private school, if you don’t like their rules go to school somewhere else. The sense of entitlement by some to think the rules don’t apply to them Is absurd
@1804Vinchi @DailyLoud Nope, When you give up on standards you get schools that have no standards. Oregon just removed the reading and writing requirements from their schools. They probably started by letting the kids wear and do what they wanted.
