Robotaxi from a realist perspective: They'll unveil the car on 8/8 and it's probably going to blow us all away in design and functionality. I really can't wait to see another futuristic design that Franz says is his favorite. It won't be available for sale though until they get the car design complete, RC cars built, safety and validation tested, and then of course the FSD software complete. They're probably hoping they can do all of that in a year. My guess is the car itself will be a year and a half away but the software, who knows. We don't even have hands free on the highway yet. I hope they also unveil the $25k car at the same event for preorder.
@TeslaTruckClub Potentially great news, but TBH I'm severely burned by the last few Tesla unveils: Battery day 2020 - 4680 STILL using wet anodes/cathodes Cybertruck 2019 - 2x the price and STILL crawling off the production line Semi - 2017 - STILL in beta/testing Roadster 2017 - STILL AWOL
@100CottonDanny You’re not wrong on any of those
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub When was the last positive surprise announcement?
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub Musk and his minions eventually scramble the impossible into the late.
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub This. TBH Elon should have waited until FSD is into version 14 AND they are rolling prototypes out of Texas for the format factor that will be the RoboTaxi. Probably 2 years early.
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub this time it'll be different
Under promise, over deliver... except when it comes to timelines. I may be wrong here, but I think you might be missing the demand shift happening. All of the finished products you mention are luxury, 1st Gen products. (Roadster excluded, but possibly not.) But, You are not wrong. Elon will take it on the chin if the event underwhelms.
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub People who are extremely excited by the mere proposition of 8/8 unveil are sus. It's exciting in that we get to see something as fans but it doesn't mean anything regarding financial success.
@100CottonDanny @TeslaTruckClub One difference, if we focus only on the hardware, is that the Robotaxi has been a massive exercise in designing a car and its factory specifically for inexpensive and fast manufacture from the outset. If the unboxed concept works, it may allow much faster ramp up.
