De Oekraïne is voor de Oekraïeners, Groenland is voor de Denen, en Nederland is voor iedereen. Zo zit het. En wie er anders over denkt begrijpt het niet en is bovendien een racist.
Extreem goed verhaal van Jesse Frederik in De Correspondent over de aarbevingsschade in Groningen. Leestijd een half uur maar één zin uit het artikel vat het goed samen: "De schaderegeling groeide uit tot een compensatiemachine, waarin elk verband met bevingen verloren ging." Dit verhaal zal nog lang nadreunen (haha, vergeef me de woordspeling). Frederik maakt aannemelijk in het stuk dat de compensatie in Groningen volledig is doorgeschoten en dat er betaald is in gebieden die waarschijnlijk geen aantoonbare schade hebben. De wetenschap fungeerde in dit dossier prima, alleen de uitkomst (weinig schade) beviel de politiek niet waarop wetenschappelijke uitkomsten keer op keer verworpen werden. Er ontstond in Groningen een sfeer dat iedereen recht had op vergoedingen, ook buiten het primaire aardbevingsgebied. Dit artikel is vermoedelijk het beste journalistieke artikel dat dit jaar gaat verschijnen in de Nederlandse media en verdient daarom een prijs. Ik ben lang niet altijd fan geweest van De Correspondent omdat ze zelf ook nogal ideologisch te werk kunnen gaan. Maar hier is Frederik zeer objectief en grondig te werk gegaan.
