Tech Call of the Week: How do I equally space beams across my kitchen area? Solution: Draw the first beam, select Move > Copy, and click the beam. Move the copied beam across the distance to receive the beams and click again. In the Copy menu, enter the desired Count of beams to add and enable the Equally Space Between option. Tech Call of the Week: It seems the upstairs walls are not able to be "fit to ceiling" when the ceiling is generated using balloon framed main floor plan walls. Is there an easy way to do this or should I just accept the walls upstairs are going to keep going up into the underside of rafters? Solution: Correct, an upper level wall cannot fit to a lower level ceiling. You can manually rake the wall, or add the ceiling to the same drawing as the wall, using Multiple Floor Ceiling if necessary, to have the program automatically rake the wall to the ceiling. Multiple Floor Ceiling works similarly to Multiple Floor Roof. Open the second floor plan, switch to Ceiling mode, select Draw > Multiple Floor Ceiling to overlay the main floor walls, and then draw the required ceiling. Tech Call of the Week: How can I set the deck stairs so they aren't anchored to the deck? I want to move them freely without moving the entire deck. Solution: After selecting Move as the active command but prior to clicking the deck stairs to move, make sure the "Attach" feature in the Status Bar is turned OFF. Tech Call of the Week: On the back of the house where it bumps out, the roof doesn't line up by the back porch. How can I correct this ? Solution: Select Edit > Match Roof Planes and click the roof edge to be matched. Next, click the roof edge you want to change to match to the first roof edge. Tech Call of the Week: Is there a way for me to make my siding corners a separate color from my roof trim? Solution: Yes, you can Edit the Roof, select the Fascia/Soffit tab, and set the Finish to something other than White. Alternatively, you can Edit the Walls, select the Trim/End Options tab, and set the Finish to something other than White. Since they both have the same Finish, Surface Editing one will change them all. Tech Call of the Week: I am seeing different behaviour with regard to roof holes since updating to SoftPlan 2026. Can you tell me how the command changed from SoftPlan 2024? I am also trying to erase a roof hole I put in the edge of my roof. How do I do that? Solution: The Roof Hole command has been updated in SoftPlan 2026. Now, when adding a Hole to the Roof, if the Hole intersects the edge of the Roof polygon, Roof edges will generate for each edge of the Hole. This behavior allows for all of the regular options of a roof edge to be accessible, such as fascia, gutters, etc. If a Roof Hole is added and contained within a Roof polygon, the Hole will appear as it did in previous versions. If you want to remove a Roof Hole, select Tools > Fillet, click the Roof edge before the Hole, and then click the Roof edge after the Hole.
