From what I’ve seen of yesterday’s EGM, this is wholly justified. If I were the RCP’s leadership, I’d be fairly concerned today. It also took a bit of moral courage to do this, which is always good to see. Nice one, Rachel.

Disappointed that the RCP has allowed a platform for retirees to pontificate (at length) about matters that ultimately do not affect them, whilst excluding trainee representation. #RCPEGM

See, the thing is for me, is that #medicinecanbebrilliant but it is incumbent on the current consultants and elected leaders to make sure it IS brilliant for the future generation of doctors - and I think this has somehow been lost
Disheartening to see snippets of @RCPhysicians EGM Seems their senior leader motives aren’t in the general interest of their members, other doctors, even public safety. It’s dangerous when anyone, let alone those in power, refuse to genuinely reassess when concerns are raised

It blows my mind that our profession has been gaslighted to SUCH an extent that we have to justify why a medical degree & training is necessary to practice medicine?! It’s truly astonishing.

I was deeply honoured to be invited to be a keynote speaker at this year's @RCPhysicians annual conference. But after last night's #RCPEGM I can no longer, in all conscience, give my speech. I feel duty bound to share in public my reasons why.

I do hope that the amazingly positive experiences also highlight some of the concerns regarding implementation of the PA project. I worked @sashnhs between 2012 to 2014 as a core medical trainee. During this period the first cohort of PAs were introduced. There was apprehension

@medicalmodelbri @parthaskar Maybe not. But you cannot deny their value to multidisciplinary practice. The PAs are educated. Have a first degree in a science plus a two year intensive course in medicine. Show some respect!

My brain hurts They don’t get it. At. All. They are perfectly happy to dilute the standard of education and qualification needed at the expense of the public
Registrar of RCP currently saying "one of the criticisms of PAs is that they aren't able to prescribe yet" as she talks about need for regulation Watch tomorrow to confirm this but this is what has just been said! #RCPEGM

@MStott88 Martyn - when you qualified as a Doctor, were you prepared to be unemployed? Or expecting a foundation post? As pre-registration Doctors can’t work elsewhere as Doctor - it is damn right they should be entitled to work.
