Elon Musk: If you want economic prosperity, reduce the size of government.
“Any given person, if they are doing things in a less efficient organization versus a more efficient organization, their contribution to the economy, their net output of goods and services, will reduce. You've got a couple of clear examples of that.
In North Korea, you've got 100% government. And in South Korea, you've got probably 40% government – it's not zero. And yet, you've got a standard of living that is probably ten times higher in South Korea, at least.
And then East and West Germany. In West Germany, you had, just thinking in terms of cars, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes and East Germany, which is a random line on a map, the only car you could get was a Trabant, which is basically a lawnmower with a shell on it. And it was extremely unsafe. There was a 20-year wait.
That's just an interesting example of the same people, different operating systems. Probably it was half government in West Germany and 100% government in East Germany.
And sometimes people have, amazingly, in this modern era, this debate as to which system is better. Well, I'll tell you which system is better. The one that doesn't need to build the wall to keep people in. That's how you can tell.”

Elon Musk: In the absence of breakthrough innovation in the US, China will utterly dominate. We need the humanoid robots, we need real-world AI, we need a million tons a year to orbit. If we get the mass driver on the moon going, I'd call that winning – big time.
Elon Musk: Whether you're rich or poor, whatever country you're in, everyone needs inspiration
“There's all these defensive reasons of like we want to be a multiplanet species and having a life insurance policy in case something bad happens to Earth. But I personally don't find that nearly as motivating as the excitement of being a space-faring civilization and being a multiplanet species and getting out there among the stars and seeing what the universe is all about. I find it incredibly inspiring. And when I talk to other people, they also find it inspiring.
With Apollo, when people landed on the moon for the first time, that was something that was great for all of humanity. And there were people that walked 50 miles to find the one TV where they could see the thing. So whether you're rich or poor, whatever country you're in, everyone needs inspiration.”

Elon Musk: 𝕏 should reflect the values of the people of Earth.
“I was a little worried about the direction and the effect of social media on the world and especially Twitter, and I thought it was very important for it to be a maximally-trusted digital public square where people within countries and internationally could communicate with the least amount of censorship allowed by law.
Obviously, that varies a lot by jurisdiction. But I think, in general, social media companies should adhere to the laws of countries and not try to put a thumb on the scale beyond the laws of countries. I think this is something that is probably agreeable to the legislators and the people of most countries.
The general idea is just to reflect the values of the people as opposed to imposing the values of essentially San Francisco and Berkeley, which are somewhat of a niche ideology as compared to the rest of the world. But, you know, Twitter was, I think, doing a little too much to impose a niche San-Francisco-Berkeley ideology on the world. So, you know, I thought it was important for the future of civilization, to try to correct that thumb on the scale, if you will, and just have Twitter more accurately reflect the values of the people of Earth. That's the intention, and hopefully we succeed in doing that.”

Elon Musk: The one thing you cannot replace is time.
“This is really all just measured in terms of time. What is the time risk associated with something? The one thing you cannot replace is time. And I do have a habit of being optimistic with schedules. I mean, if I wasn't optimistic, I wouldn't be doing the crazy things that I'm doing. I must be pathologically optimistic, I suppose.”
