The massacre was only ended when a US helicopter crew threatened to shoot any US soldier that did not stop killing, the helicopter crew were later denounced as traitors by congress when they returned to the US

@morriconerosso In the West today, many would be saying those children, women and elderly deserved to die for living so close to the Viet Cong.
This did not happen in a vacuum. The events noted here were part of a larger effort run not by the U.S. military but by the CIA. The Phoenix Program was a long, bloody series of events whose overseer, William Colby, was “punished” by being made director of the CIA in September 1973.
@morriconerosso the thought of the massacre and what it took to stop it still gives me chills. thank goodness for people like Hugh Thompson, Glenn Andreotta, and Lawrence Colburn in that helicopter. people who do the right thing even when the majority thinks of them as traitors

@morriconerosso I can't believe this is real... I'm really terrified
@morriconerosso The worst part is that everyone got away with it
@morriconerosso I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about this 😳
