I figured Ryan Preece would be bitter that other drivers didn't get penalized for intentionally wrecking another driver considering his penalty (25 points, $50K) earlier this year. Preece has made t-shirts that say: "Don't Hit The Button" @NASCARONFOX

Ryan Preece still doesn't believe he should have been penalized, and seeing NASCAR not take action against others still has him questioning where things stand with on-track contact. "It feels like it depends on who does it, and who's going to get the penalty."

Shane van Gisbergen had his first visit to the NASCAR hauler today. He doesn't want a return one. "That's one of the beauties of NASCAR, it's self-policing to a point."

Chris Buescher and some fans thought the billboards were AI but everyone has since learned they are real from Ryan Preece. Buescher indicates that he’ll be getting up to some shenanigans as well.

Sunday's Chicagoland Cup Series race is trending toward a sellout, I am told, with ticket buyers from 29 different countries and all 50 states.

This is known as a “Yoke Note”. The jet’s yoke (steering wheel) has a little clipboard for it. In smaller jets w/ sticks, pilots use a “kneeboard”, a clipboard which straps to your leg. In either case, it’s a note w/ vital info I’ll need, where I can jot down notes. In the airline world, you’ll mostly write down things like clearance, or the ATIS identifier (weather conditions). I’ve greyed out identifying info here, like tail number, callsign as well as the gates were leaving & arriving to. We’re going from one of the islands to LAX, and though most of you have figured out what airline I’m at, I’d like to ask again that you don’t say it or I may not be able to keep this up. I don’t speak for them. Ok, along the left side from top to bottom is data I want to have, without memorizing. Out is push time from the gate, Off is takeoff, On is landing & In is back at a gate. The times are Zulu, since everything in aviation is in Zulu. Being able to glance at these helps me keep things on track. The next few categories are all datapoints I’ll need to enter into the jet to initialize the system, or tell it about itself & where it’s going: ZFW is Zero Fuel Weight, how much we weigh with passengers & cargo, but no fuel. CI is Cost Index, or how efficient we plan to fly. It’s a low 10 tonight because we have good tailwinds & are early. RSV is Reserve fuel. It’s 6 tonight because I have an alternate of Ontario, it will take 1.8 thousand pounds to get there, I never want to land with less than 4.0, so I add them & round up. CRZ is initial Cruise altitude, Flight Level 350, or 35,000’. That will be the final cruise tonight, but usually we’d climb higher once we burn enough fuel to be light enough to climb. W & T are the Winds & Temps at initial cruise. The jet needs to know this information. Now we come to P Gate, or how much fuel we’ve Planned to have at the Gate. I need to be sure they don’t underfill us. TOW is Takeoff Weight. The jet needs to know how much it will weigh at takeoff to calculate the right speeds. It’s correct on the paper, but I add a thousand pounds when I punch it in, for a little extra margin. (We won’t really know until the ground crew finalizes the ZFW, which will happen after pushback) Min TO is the minimum amount of fuel we can takeoff w/ & not cut into our reserve. I already talked about the Alternate & how much Fuel is required. REMF is Remaining Fuel, if everything goes to plan & we don’t have to divert. SOB is Souls On Board. It includes crew & lap children. If we have to evacuate, I’m hoping to count that many heads after I’m the last one off the jet. Along the bottom left is departure info. Taking off on runway 02 & the first navigation point is Direct (D w/ the arrow through it) to “Ebber”. In this case, there is no departure procedure, so ATC will assign a heading & initial climb altitude. I wrote (024°) because that’s the runway heading & I’ll use it as a placeholder. Bottom right is the arrival info at LAX. There is no arrival filed, just straight to “Exert” then direct to LAX…but Exert is the initial approach fix for the ILS to runway 7R (I guessed wrong & we got 6R). Most of the rest is my script to passengers. How long the flight is, how early, the distance, average speed in knots (then mph) & cruise altitude (translated to miles). They don’t need to know the “To”, which is field elevation at LAX, but the jet does for pressurization schedules. A bit about expected Weather (WX) in flight & how much turbulence. We’ll minimize announcements because it’s a red eye. Expected WX at LAX. Can’t forget to wish them a happy Fourth! I don’t tell them Maintenance (MX) stuff, but I need to know it. The CP is the Critical Point. If something happens before crossing, we go back to HNL. If after, to SFO. I plug it in the jet. HF is the High Frequencies we’ll use to talk to ATC. Regular radios won’t work. Hope that helps. I’ll try to answer questions, but it’s time for a day sleep!

Ideally, you are not supposed to initiate a turn below 400’ on takeoff– unless flying under visual rules – and then not come within 500’ of any person, place or thing. The FAA will get these guys. They have several nebulous rules they can apply if they can’t make others stick.
