Some LG, Alienware, and Dell monitor owners have discovered that simply plugging their monitor into a Windows PC can automatically install adware without asking for permission first. Users are mad because the app immediately starts showing McAfee pop-up ads after it’s installed. Apparently, this happens because Windows automatically downloads companion apps for supported devices, while Windows handles the installation, monitor manufacturers decide what the app does after it’s installed.

Microsoft has confirmed a Windows 11 bug that can make a single file grow to 500GB or more, consuming a huge amount of storage. The file is called CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal. It’s normally only a few MB, but due to the bug it can grow to hundreds of GB on some PCs. If your storage suddenly looks much lower than expected, search for CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal in File Explorer to see if you’re affected. Microsoft says the issue has been fixed in the optional KB5095093 update, and the fix will also be rolled out to everyone in the next Windows 11 Patch Tuesday update. windowslatest.com/2026/07/06/mic…

How they got in: - A Red Hat employee's GitHub account was compromised. - Attackers pushed "orphan commits" (detached from branch history) straight in, bypassing code review with no pull request. - Payload "Miasma" (Mini Shai-Hulud variant) steals GitHub/cloud/Vault/SSH/npm secrets. Rotate everything since June 1. - The commits added a workflow (ci.yaml) + script (_index.js) that abused npm trusted publishing, requesting a real OIDC token to publish backdoored versions.
