#LestWeForgetIndia🇮🇳 Lance Naik Bal Bahadur Thapa, Vir Chakra (P), 7/8 GORKHA RIFLES, part of #IPKF, killed one militant and made the supreme sacrifice during Op Pawan in Sri Lanka #OnThisDay 19 June in 1989 L/Nk Thapa was a member of a patrol party during Op Pawan in Sri Lanka. He volunteered to be the scout of the patrol party thereby putting himself right in front. While patrolling along Rasa Veethi on the 19 June 1989, he spotted three young men crossing a fence in a suspicious manner. He started chasing the men to apprehend them. On being spotted, the suspected militants ran in different directions, jumping over the fence. Determined to get the militants, L/Nk Thapa followed one of them in hot pursuit. Realising that he was being pursued very closely, the militant tried to evade capture by lobbing a grenade that exploded in front of L/Nk Thapa. Undaunted by the explosion of the grenade, the continued to chase the militant, who was now joined by another militant. The militants opened up with AK-47 rifles and brought a heavy volume of automatic fire on him. Undeterred by the fire, L/Nk Thapa returned the fire with his rifle and killed one militant instantly. Subsequently, the search on the dead militant resulted in the recovery of two cyanide capsules, two micro cassettes containing incriminating material, and cash in Sri Lankan currency. However, in the exchange of fire, L/Nk Thapa was seriously injured and he succumbed to his injuries. L/Nk Thapa, thus displayed conspicuous courage, bravery and valour in the face of the militants in total disregard of his personal safety and made the supreme sacrifice.

Grievously injured, he fought on till his last #LestWeForgetIndia 🇮🇳 Captain R Subramanian, Kirti Chakra (P), 1 PARA (SF), eliminated 3 terrorists before laying down his life at Kupwara, J&K #OnThisDay 19 June in 2000 On 17 June 2000, when Capt Subramanian had rejoined from casual leave, his team was already inducted in Haphruda Forest in J&K. He joined the scene of action where his team had established contact with a group of infiltrating foreign terrorists at 1430 hrs on 18 June 2000. The ensuing encounters resulted in the killing of six foreign terrorists and recovery of one RPG Launcher and two AK 47 Rifles. The next day, 19 June, when search of the area was resumed, Capt Subramanian volunteered to lead from the front. At 0800 hours, the leading scouts were fired upon and pinned down from a very close range. Capt Subramanian closed onto the terrorists from the flank and shot two of them dead. However, a third terrorist fired an AK 47 burst, injuring him grievously. Disregarding his wounds, he assaulted the terrorist and shot him dead. However, the #IndianBrave succumbed to his injuries and laid down his life. For his conspicuous courage, unparalleled valour and outstanding combat leadership in the face of the terrorists, Capt Subramanian was awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously. #Remember Capt Subramanian - his valour, service & supreme sacrifice 🏵️
