Around here places like Target and Starbucks are hiring at $18 an hour. Full time thatโs $3,120 a month before taxes. After taxes youโre taking home around $2,700. Average one bedroom apartment near me is $1,750. Thatโs already 65% of your paycheck gone before groceries, gas, insurance, or a single emergency. And somehow this still gets called a budgeting problem. Working full time should mean youโre stable. Not one bad week away from a crisis.

That's always been why so many were anti-remote work though. 1. A lot more people than you think are dependent on work for socialization - very Michael Scott like. 2. A lot of others dislike their spouses and kids and want an excuse to leave every day. 3. Another group are micromanagers/people with poor management skills, and/or people whose jobs really don't need to exist if people prove able to work independently and they know it. 4. A small group loses money on commercial real estate if remote work is successful. And those groups of people are trying to hold everyone else hostage in offices.
The more I read arguments against remote work the less I find them credible. This starts with "remote work hurts mental health" then goes to say it's about those without friends/family with whom they interact. Work isn't meant to be adult daycare, just let people choose.
