Cryptozoology Drive-by Megalania The Megalania is an officially recognized reptile that grew to be up to 24 feet long and weighed up to 4,000lbs. Although it is supposed to be extincted as of 2 million years ago, there are numerous contemporary sightings even up to the 21st century. Whether these sightings are actually a Megalania population that managed to escape extinction, or whether these are merely misidentified monitor lizards or crocodiles, is up for debate.
Cryptozoology Drive-by Jenglot The Jenglot hails from Indonesia and was reported during the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a small creature that measures a mere 12cm long and drinks human blood. While the stories are undoubtedly creepy and reminiscent of goblins and gremlins, every example that's ever been presented have been crudely fabricated hoaxes, likely the result of horror stories and little else. This legend barely even qualifies as a cryptid, but it's definitely an usual one that seems to be right out of the Ghoulies franchise.
Cryptozoology Drive-by Kasai Rex In 1932, a Swedish hunter named John Johnson allegedly encountered a massive animal that was hunting elephants in the Kasai Valley in Africa. There were a series of sightings and alleged attacks, as well as hunting parties that attempted to kill the animal. While no body was found, it is suggested that the Kasai Rex may be Tyrannosaurus rex or Giganotosaurus. Contrastly, many theorize it was actually a giant monitor lizard, possibly a Megalania. Interestingly enough, there is one alleged photograph of the animal that is in the comments!
Cryptozoology Drive-by Giant Jellyfish/Nomura's Jellyfish First sighted in 1953, the giant jelly fish has been described in multiple different ways, but it's massive size is a consistent theme. Described as being large enough to eat sharks and even humans, there are some theories that suggest that it may be a particularly large lions mane jellyfish (which can be up to 7' wide and over 100' long) There was an infamous account of a Japanese man who claimed his family was killed by a giant Jellyfish and he even passed a polygraph.
Cryptozoology Drive-by Giant Bat/Ahool The Ahool comes from Java and is allegedly a massive bat with a wingspan of up to 12 feet. For reference, the largest known bat is the Bismark flying fox, which lives in New Guinea and has a 6 foot wingspan. There are numerous giant bat legends all around the world such as the Kongamato or the Guiafairo of Senegal, among many others.

My next objective for our natural history expansion is to acquire a full size replica dimetrodon skeleton. It will be out initial flagship display for our West Virginia Natural History department which, if successful, will go on to become the Appalachian Natural History Museum!
Cryptozoology can be broken down into three fundamental subcategories: Natural sciences Folklore/anthropology Paranormal I tend to fall into the first two categories, as my primary field of study is folklore/mythological origins and their effects on various cultures over the course of multiple subsequent generations.
