I warned on @FoxNews with @johnrobertsFox that if Iran believed America was unwilling to respond, it would escalate. After attacking Kuwait’s airport and targeting US forces in Bahrain last week without paying a price, the regime is now attacking Israel. On This Day — June 7, 1981 43 years ago today, Israel pulled off what many experts called an impossible suicide mission: a 1,000-mile surprise airstrike deep into enemy territory to blow up Saddam Hussein’s Osirak nuclear reactor — just weeks before it was to go live with enriched uranium fuel. In Operation Opera, eight Israeli F-16s escorted by F-15s flew low across hostile airspace over Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq — without aerial refueling. In 1981, this was considered borderline insane. The distance, the risk of detection by multiple Arab air forces, and no backup plan made it look like a one-way mission. Most believed the planes would never return. Yet they all completed their mission and returned home safely. Israel had every reason to fear a nuclear Saddam: - Saddam had sworn to destroy Israel and “burn half of it with chemical weapons.” - Iraq had never signed a ceasefire and remained technically at war with Israel. - Saddam was already gassing his own Kurdish citizens and building one of the most brutal regimes on earth. Prime Minister Menachem Begin, whose parents and brother were murdered in the Holocaust, carried a deep personal mission: “I will not be the man in whose time there will be a second Holocaust.” Diplomacy had completely failed. France and Italy sold the reactor for oil. The U.S. knew the danger but wouldn’t act. Israel stood alone. Despite fierce internal opposition and enormous risks — international isolation, retaliation, and danger to its fragile peace with Egypt — Begin gave the order. At 6:35 PM local time, the jets struck with surgical precision. In just 80 seconds, the reactor was reduced to rubble. Iraqi defenses were caught completely off guard. The world erupted in outrage. Two days after Henry died Hampshire Police secretly recorded Digwa in a police van speaking Punjabi to his brother. Digwa admitted stabbing Henry. Discussed claiming self defence. Told them they were about to collapse their own murder case. This is the force that handcuffed a dying boy. Missed the murder weapon twice. Had a secret tape proving the killer lied. And still tried to bury Henry's name. That's not incompetence. That's a machine protecting itself. At the expense of a dead boy's reputation and three officers are still on active duty. 250 years ago today, a man stood up in a room full of nervous delegates and said the words that made America inevitable. Not Thomas Jefferson. Not George Washington. Not Benjamin Franklin. A Virginia planter named Richard Henry Lee. It was June 7, 1776. The war had already been going for over a year. Men were dying. Cities were burning. And yet the Continental Congress still had not officially declared independence from Britain. That morning, Lee rose and read aloud a resolution he had been instructed to deliver by Virginia: "That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved." John Adams immediately seconded it. The room erupted. The debate that followed was so heated that Congress had to table the vote entirely. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and South Carolina were not ready. Their delegates had not been authorized to vote for independence. Some feared it was too soon. Some feared it was treason. So Congress bought time. They postponed the vote for three weeks and quietly appointed a committee to draft a formal declaration, just in case the resolution passed. That committee included Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, Robert Livingston, and a soft-spoken 33-year-old Virginia lawyer known for his elegant writing. Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson wrote the Declaration. It was adopted July 4. The world celebrated. And Richard Henry Lee, the man whose words started everything, whose resolution is the reason any of this happened? He had already gone home to Virginia. He missed the signing entirely. Jefferson is immortalized. Lee is a footnote. History is funny that way.
