After reading lowiro's explanation, I think the most interesting part of the Arcaea 7.0 launch issues is that one of Arcaea's greatest strengths ended up contributing to the spoiler situation. The server outage itself was caused by unexpectedly high traffic. According to lowiro, the number of players trying to access Version 7.0 exceeded even previous Main Story launches. Attempts to scale the servers led to database bottlenecks, resulting in repeated periods where the servers would briefly recover and then go down again. However, the spoiler issue happened because Arcaea supports offline play. Many of the new songs and story contents in 7.0 could be played offline once a player had successfully logged in and synchronized their account. During the brief moments when the servers were available, a small number of players managed to log in. After that, even when the servers went down again, they were still able to continue progressing through the new content offline. Meanwhile, the majority of players could not log in at all. As a result: *A small group of players gained access to the new story first. *Most players were locked out by server issues. *Story details and screenshots began spreading through social media and Discord. *Players who were unable to log in were exposed to spoilers for content they could not play themselves. In other words, the problem wasn't that offline mode prevented people from playing. The problem was that offline mode allowed a handful of players to keep progressing while everyone else was stuck waiting for the servers. It's an unusual situation where a feature that has long been considered one of Arcaea's biggest advantages ended up creating a fairness issue during a server outage. lowiro has now stated that they may introduce temporary online checks for future major story releases to prevent players from progressing too far during large-scale server failures. It seems the team has decided that protecting fairness during new content launches is more important than preserving unrestricted offline progression in these situations. It's a fascinating example of how a feature designed to improve accessibility and reliability can produce the exact opposite effect under exceptional circumstances.
