In October 1979, Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci traveled to Qom, Iran, to interview the Islamic Revolution's supreme leader. To get inside the room, Fallaci was forced to cover herself from head to toe in a heavy black chador, leaving only her face visible. The conversation inside the room was tense from the very start. Fallaci did not hold back her questions. She pushed the Ayatollah on political executions, the sudden shutdown of independent newspapers, and the sharp loss of rights for Iranian women under the new regime. When she asked about the forced wearing of the veil, Khomeini dismissed her concerns and claimed the garment was meant to protect young and respectable women. He then added, "If you do not like the Islamic dress, you are not obliged to wear it." Fallaci took his words literally and replied, "Thank you, Mr. Imam. Since you tell me so, I am taking it off right now." With a quick move, she pulled the chador off her head, leaving her hair completely exposed right in front of the Supreme Leader. Khomeini was furious. He stood up without saying another word and walked out of the room. The room fell silent, and the interview was abruptly stopped. However, Fallaci refused to leave Iran until he returned a day later to finish the conversation. This confrontation became legendary in the history of journalism. It showed a reporter refusing to bow down to authority, even in one of the most dangerous settings imaginable. Fallaci proved that real journalism requires standing up to power, asking hard questions, and refusing to be silenced by fear or tradition. When journalists trade raw courage for easy access and comfortable silence, we lose one of our strongest shields against tyranny. It’s funny enough that @RyanMNeuhaus wants to slam Hinduism as un-American, but his knowledge about us Hindus is so rudimentary that all he’s got are the caste, cows, curry stereotypes. What’s even funnier is that this right-winger is regurgitating Marxist claptrap, that’s found a home in the DSA, that wants you to believe that some Brahmin grandmasters are going around the US “imposing caste justice” on Americans. i rarely talk about being indian american bc i always figured there are more interesting things to discuss. maybe it's relevant today…im a second-gen immigrant, 21 yr old brown girl. my parents were entrepreneurs who believed in the american dream. my dad is catholic, mom is hindu. i grew up going to temple on saturdays and mass sunday mornings. this combination existed bc of their love for each other. at church, i never cared nor thought others cared we were the only brown people there... i think everyone, like me, was too busy being God-fearing. imho this principle holds true in many things. our shallowly distinct traits are pretty uninteresting when you're a part of something greater. i went to johns hopkins, we didn't exactly have ut football..but i studied hard and we'd still slam tequila shots at the college bar, go to tailgates and state football games, meet people of all backgrounds. i grew up going to the local drive-in theater and playing outside with the neighbors after school. my childhood best friend taught me about her family's farm and horse riding. she came to mine where we'd eat after my mom would oil both our hair. shenadoah and our national parks hold a special place in my heart, as do ashrams back in india, bollywood movies and 2000s romcoms…i've had the honor to play for this country in my sport and just learned how to shoot a gun. make damn good kebabs and love a good bbq, will always touch my elders' feet, and take pride in my culture, hospitality and this country. i don’t drink beer but i'm a proud american bc of my values. i want to create a beautiful family here. i believe in hard work, in the law, in contributing to the country we love and respect. Much has been said by racists, politicians, and racist politicians (like Bo French) about Indians and UT Austin admissions. I thought I should shed some light so their racism could be slightly more intelligent. I'm a brown kid. I grew up in Frisco, went to a massive Texas high school, and went to UT. I would wager that the kids in this picture and I have practically the same background. Like me, they probably went to a massive, pressure-cooker suburban Texas high school, and survived the gauntlet to earn their admissions. These aren’t foreigners. State law requires 90% of UT's freshman class to be Texas residents. 75% of those in-state seats go to automatic admission on class rank. These are Texans. Texas, for better or worse, is one of the few meritocratic college admissions schemes in the country for a school of its caliber. The rules are simple. Today, the top 5% of a public school's graduating class is automatically accepted. There is nothing to game. You can’t fake being a competitive rower or have some consultant write your essays for you. There isn’t anything to steal; it’s all there on the table to compete for. And the competition starts the moment the bell rings for your first period of freshman year. You are ranked in your class every single year, for us, #1 to #450. You knew exactly where you were, exactly how hard you had to compete. My year was even less competitive than it is today. The top 6% made the cut, so that’s an all-out war for ~27 kids to get auto-accepted into UT. So we worked our butts off. Here's what my life was like, starting in kindergarten. Every summer, before the school year started, I had to finish the upcoming year's math textbook. I sweated over getting As, even in elementary school. One funny memory is walking to my parents' room, crying, to report my first-ever 89 on a report card. I did Kumon, my least favorite thing in the world. I still hate that weird half-smile that is their logo. I went to math and science competitions, where I always lost, and came home crying again. (Quite the crybaby, wasn't I!) And everyone else around me worked just as hard. Actually, a lot of the kids worked much harder. I know people who took extra classes (zero period) just to boost their GPA. Who routinely slept 5 hours a night to nail every assignment they had after band practice. Who were distraught when they got a 98 instead of a 100. People who stopped doing things they loved, like sports or arts, because those classes dragged down their GPA. People put their entire life force into getting into this school. I wasn't even in the top 10% of my class. The competition was too good. I wasn't disciplined enough to hang with them. I got in as one of the 22.5% of admits who are at-large Texans. These are American kids who earned their way into this school in the most American way possible. Competition. They were told the rules, they competed, and they got the number. And on Saturday they were in that stadium in burnt orange, screaming their heads off, like every other Texan at DKR or around the country. I can’t feel anything but pride for them. That they get to live the dream that so many of us dreamt growing up! Kids like this have helped improve UT’s standing on the national stage. They made it out of the pressure cooker and placed well in Finance, Big Tech, and more recently, startups. They meaningfully contribute to the economies of our state and country. You should be proud of them too. Overall, this seems like a meritocratic (albeit flawed) way for Texans to be admitted to our state’s flagship school. It’s racially blind. But politicians like Bo French are asking for something different. They want the student body to rebalance racially. Surely they aren’t advocating for affirmative action, are they?

This statue is over 2300 years old. It's one of the very few ancient sculptures left with its original eyes, and I can’t get over how real they look... The statue is the Antikythera Ephebe, a Greek bronze of a young man made around 340 to 330 BC, and strangely enough, the reason it survived is because it sank. In antiquity, bronze statues were constantly melted down for their metal, turned into weapons and coins, which is why almost none survive. This one went to the bottom of the sea in a shipwreck around 60 BC and lay there for nearly two thousand years, until sponge divers found it in 1900. But let’s go back to my favorite detail: the eyes. When a bronze statue is made, the eyes are often set separately, inlaid with glass, stone, and colored paste to make them lifelike, and over the centuries almost every ancient bronze has lost them, leaving those hollow, blank sockets we think of as classical. The Ephebe still has his original eyes, made of glass paste, one of only a handful of ancient Greek bronzes in the world that do. And it changes everything because he does not gaze blankly into nothing, he seems to be looking, intently, at something that vanished more than two thousand years ago...

This is racist. It is wrong. And I condemn it without reservation. There is absolutely nothing Christian or conservative about looking at a crowd of young Texans at a college football game, seeing the color of their skin, and declaring that they are a “problem.” These are 20-year-old kids cheering for their university—not political props and not targets for racial attacks. We can have serious debates about our nation’s immigration laws. I have strong views about immigration policy, and Americans have every right to demand changes to federal law. But opposing an immigration policy does not give anyone license to demean people because of their race or ethnicity. And let’s be clear: the Texas Railroad Commission regulates our oil and gas industry. It does not set federal immigration policy. Texans deserve Railroad Commissioners focused on the responsibilities of that office—not using a statewide campaign as a platform for racial division. This does not represent my Christian faith. It does not represent my conservative principles. And it does not represent the Republican Party I believe in. As a Texas Aggie, I’m always happy to take a friendly shot at the Longhorns when the opportunity presents itself. That rivalry is part of what makes these two great universities so special. But this goes far beyond college rivalry. We should be willing to call racism wrong no matter who says it, what party they belong to, or how politically inconvenient it may be. This is wrong, and I want no part of it.

Nebraska ranks 4th highest in the nation for property taxes. Any state senator that dismisses this is as "fake news" is either ignorant, oblivious, obtuse, or diverting/deflecting from their incompetence. Any state senator that dismisses THEIR responsibility to SOLVE the problem VIA the amendment of State Statutes (their PRIMARY purpose IS amendment of State Statutes) is either ignorant, oblivious, obtuse, or diverting/deflecting from their incompetence. Homeowners in Nebraska, paying an average of $5,516 a year on a $400,000 home—way above the national average of $3,552 is BY DESIGN. This math IS relative to ALL Nebraskans, no matter the "valuation" of your house. It's relative for all Nebraskans...because if you don't PAY, THEY take your home. This didn't just manifest on its own. These numbers didn't, by happenstance, just appear. The "COST" (your taxes) of keeping ALL government operating didn't incrementally increase because of inflation. It's PURPOSEFUL. It's with INTENTION. It's by the ignorance, obliviousness, obtuseness, and/or diverting/deflecting of incompetence. But do not be fooled that solutions don't exist. Lowering property taxes is essential, but doing it by leaning on state-funded subsidies while our budget faces mounting debt is a shell game. And know this...after this upcoming Unicameral session, those "tax credits" are going to be sacrificed for the State budgets "needs". Your TOTAL property tax bill IS going to go up in 2027. We will be ranked #1 highest in the nation for property taxes. Go Big Red, right?🤯😡 We can't keep masking local spending problems with state cash without putting our fiscal health in a chokehold. Real relief requires structural spending restraint, not shifting the burden to a growing state budget debt. The Second Chamber is the ONLY avenue for solving this problem. Indian values are very practical and Indians succeeded all over the world thanks to these values.. not the identities or religions they claim to follow, but rather the actual Indian (aka Hindoo) values they still retain, even if modern media, higher Ed, elite politics and cultish neo-religions are all working against them..

I am Pakistani with Indian grandparents and a Dad who attended college in India. I’ve never reflected on this before but Indian middle class values - education, saving, family stability are an inherent advantage. Congrats to Kunal Shah!

We’ve never seen anything like this before. A man was conscripted into jury duty by the government. He performed his civic duty and followed his conscience, refusing to acquit a woman who confessed to systematically executing her three children. The defense attorney immediately launched a public smear campaign against the juror. Soon several other jurors joined the campaign. Then the media. Even the defense attorney’s wife has joined. Now they’re doxxing the man, digging into his past, contacting his family, showing up at his house. All of this both to punish him for refusing to go with their program, and to pollute any future jury pool by making it clear that anyone who votes to convict Clancy will have their life destroyed. It’s truly one of the most outrageously evil things we’ve ever seen from the Left, and that’s saying something. A direct assault on the integrity of our justice system. They are burning down every boundary and standard in their path. And doing it all for the sake of a child murdering psychopath. Unfathomable.
