I grew up knowing that standing by your man through his hard times is not weakness but rather one of the greatest expressions of love and respect for him. That is why I personally believe in being a back bone for my partner when/if things get tough for him. Sadly women like me are considered as being foolish and pick me’s by the average Nigerian woman, because they cannot process supporting a man through his bad times without using it as an avenue to belittle him or make him feel like less of a man. This post is to encourage the outlier women like myself who believe in our roles as helpmates to our partners and prospective husbands whilst still giving him his full respect as the man of the home. @TunjiDisu1, Sir The practice of police demanding money to "process" legitimate petitions has come to a point where no one can deny its existence. I had high hope in your appointment and the practice is something that I seriously hope would be abolished or reduced to the level of a taboo. It is so bad that colleagues have instances of police demanding money to act on petitions bothering on threat to life, revenge porn, and other serious crimes. Has the Federal Government completely excluded @PoliceNG from budgetary provisions? Is the police system now an orphan that the Nigerian state has left to fend for itself? Why is there always a demand for millions to act on petitions? "Hello, I am xyz from abc police command. Your petition on 123 has been assigned to us to act on. Please come around with your client". Once you go, a key component of that meeting is billing. It has forced many lawyers to wash their hands off anything involving the police. Some of us are too ashamed of such practice to ever tell our client to bring such money. Imagine a client asking a lawyer if the lawyer approves of him paying bribe to the police. There's something inherently debasing about a lawyer asking his client to bring "mobilisation money" for the police. If this practice won't stop, can the police atleast see to how we can pay "mobilisation money" on remita and obtain a receipt for it so that we can ruin the system with a modicum of dignity? Can efforts be made to vest this absurdity with a toga of formality so that a notice at the police station can carry the name, bank, and account details we would send the "mobilisation" or whatever money to, so that we may obtain and document the receipt? If it cannot be stopped, make it the norm, so that legal practitioners will be able to furnish evidence of such ridiculous demands to clients who find such incredulous. Because what do you say when a client asks: "Do you mean the police asked me to bring money before they can stop someone who threatened to kill me?" What is wrong with the system in this country for God's sake?!
