When I first came to India, the space industry was closed to private players. The most well-known "startup" at that time was TeamIndus. Skyroot didn't exist. A year later, in 2018, Skyroot was founded. Private companies in India couldn't launch rockets yet, but Pawan and Bharath forged ahead regardless, optimistic that liberalisation would happen someday. Then, in 2020, it did. Indian companies were finally free to compete with American, Russian, European, and Chinese startups. They could build their own launch vehicles. And satellites. At an undisclosed location in the United States, Elon swallowed hard. I was publishing videos about Indian companies on YouTube at this point. I remember thinking, "Making content about these spacetech developments is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Now, ~6 years later, Skyroot has gifted India with the biggest white pill of all time. While the world watched, a team of ~1,000+ Indian optimists (with an average age of 28) flawlessly executed an orbital rocket launch. No private space company IN THE WORLD has ever done this on their first try. As I write this, I have goosebumps. I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to witness this firsthand. I also feel inspired by the resilience, ingenuity, and wherewithal of the entire Skyroot team. The next chapter of India's space journey has officially begun.

But what we've uncovered on @Wikipedia raises a deeper question: who gets to write the public record? Our investigation found that a small cluster of anonymous editors controlled more than 80% of the @HinduAmerican page. Among the findings: Blatant Conflict of Interest: The editors aggressively shaping HAF’s page were the exact same people controlling the Wikipedia profiles of HAF's legal adversaries and academic critics. Inserting False FARA Allegations: Editors laundered complaints from HAF's opponents into "facts," using demands for a DOJ investigation to falsely brand HAF as a foreign agent Administrative Silencing: An admin with supreme platform permissions deleted quotes from HAF's leadership, stripping the organization of its right to reply to allegations. Over four years (2021-2025), editors systematically erased HAF’s identity as an American civil rights group, transforming its Wikipedia page into a heavily curated dossier of accusations. This is a case study in how India’s entire vulnerability disclosure framework is structurally broken. Let me explain; The first broken piece is the legal trap. When Nisarga “hacked” CBSE, he technically violated Section 66 of the IT Act, which criminalises unauthorised access to a computer system. There is no carve-out for security research in Indian law. None. The fact that he reported responsibly to CERT-In gives him zero legal protection on paper. The only thing standing between him and prosecution right now is CBSE choosing not to file a complaint. Compare with the US. The DOJ formally announced in 2022 that “good faith security research” will not be prosecuted under the CFAA. The UK has similar protections. The Netherlands codifies it. Singapore has formal coordinated vulnerability disclosure policies. India has none of this. Every researcher who reports a flaw is literally betting that the affected department is nice enough not to retaliate. Because of this, the best Indian security researchers work for foreign bug bounty programs like HackerOne and Bugcrowd because the legal risk of reporting to Indian government systems is too high. They find Indian vulnerabilities and stay quiet. We have no idea how many critical flaws exist in our digital infrastructure right now that researchers have spotted but won’t report. The second broken piece is CERT-In itself. CERT-In is mandated as India’s nodal cybersecurity body but operates with three structural disadvantages most people don’t know about. It has no enforcement authority. It can issue advisories. It can recommend patches. It cannot force a government department to fix anything. CBSE could ignore CERT-In for the next 5 years and there’s no mechanism to compel action. Its budget is roughly Rs 700 crore annually. For comparison, the UK’s NCSC operates with Rs 5,800 crore. The US CISA operates with Rs 25,000+ crore. India’s cyber defence per citizen spend is one of the lowest among G20 countries. The 2022 CERT-In directive that required companies to report incidents within 6 hours and store logs for 180 days generated huge industry pushback because the timeline was unrealistic. The directive remains active but enforcement has been patchy. It’s the opposite problem from CBSE. Over-regulation of the private sector, under-regulation of the public sector. The third broken piece is the architectural mistake repeated across every system. CBSE OSM had a 17-year-old find authentication bypass. Aadhaar had multiple leaks in 2018, 2019, 2023. CoWIN had a Telegram bot in 2023 pulling personal data using phone numbers. The Income Tax e-filing portal had multiple authentication issues during its 2021 relaunch. The common thread is the same architectural mistake. Government tech is built via tender. Lowest bidder wins. Security is treated as a nice-to-have. Systems go live with 6-month delivery deadlines and 1-month security audits. Patches happen reactively. We are investing heavily in our digital infrastructure. DIGIPIN is rolling out across India. Account Aggregator framework is integrating banking, insurance, mutual funds, and credit data into a single financial data exchange layer. ONDC is integrating thousands of small businesses and consumers. Each of these systems is bigger than CBSE OSM, but our approach to this is tepid. Israel pays its top security researchers Rs 1-3 crore packages through Unit 8200 and post-military startups. The talent stays in country and builds Check Point, Cyberark, Wiz, Palo Alto Networks. India trains 1.5 lakh cybersecurity engineers annually and exports most of them. The US runs Hack the Pentagon and Hack the Army, where they invite ethical hackers to legally test the most sensitive systems and pay $5,000-$50,000 bounties India’s version is closed-loop and opaque. We have no equivalent for Defence, Income Tax, or any major department. 1/2

Now that the 131st Amendment Bill failed, allocation of Lok Sabha seats will be based on 2026 census data. As per current estimates, seven States will likely lose 35 seats: AP (-5), Telangana (-3), TN (-10), Karnataka (-2), Kerala (-7), Odisha (-4), and WB (-4). Four States will likely gain 34 seats: UP (+12), Bihar (+10), MP (+5), and Rajasthan (+7). BJP is widely believed to be the potential beneficiary of redistribution of seats to States based on 2026 population. In a stunning act of self-denial, the NDA government came forward to freeze the current share of States based on the 1971 census data. There could be many reasons for BJP committing to such a freeze - putting the nation above the party, paving the way for expanding their footprint in the South, or avoiding a divisive issue when the nation has to focus on growth and prosperity in the face of global challenges. Whatever be the motivation of BJP, the seven States that lost share of population are offered an unexpected gift. You don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Surprisingly, the parties which have great stakes in the South and East have scored a spectacular self goal. This is a classic case of cutting the nose to spite the face. In 2001, as the freeze in seats was expiring, I was deeply involved in persuading the then Vajpayee government to continue the freeze in the number of seats allocated to States for another 25 years. An unwieldy coalition and the economic challenge posed by external sanctions after the Pokharan explosion demanded national unity, and the parties responded with the 84th Amendment. Now again a priceless opportunity arose, and the Opposition squandered it without any strategic thinking. If political animosity makes you oblivious of your own interest, or larger interests of fostering unity and focusing on growth and harmony, it is a sign of dysfunctional politics. I appeal to all parties to come together and find a harmonious solution to the thorny problem of seats allocation in the face of demographic imbalances. National unity and our quest for opportunity and prosperity for all demand a fair and swift resolution. In the long run migration will resolve the imbalances. Already millions of migrant workers are building and sustaining the economies of several States in the South, West and North. That is why, despite low fertility rate, Maharashtra's share of the population is increasing. In the US, dramatic internal migration changed the demography and representation over the years. People move freely to States where there is growth and jobs are created. In a century, Florida increased its representation in the US Congress from 4 to 28, California from 11 to 52, Texas from 18 to 38, and Washington from 5 to 10. Owing to outward migration, New York lost seats, from 43 to 26, Pennsylvania from 36 to 17, Illinois from 27 to 17, Ohio from 22 to 15, and Missouri from 16 to 8. We should make it easy for people to migrate to other States and recognize and respect their constitutional rights everywhere and make their life easier and safe. That will resolve our demographic challenges. Most states reached low fertility levels, and Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Jharkhand too are going to reach there in a few years. We need a reasoned and pragmatic approach to grow together and become strong. Let us persuade parties to shed inflammatory and divisive rhetoric and focus on quality education and skills and opportunities for all.

Yes, India has three problems: 1) Governmental and administrative apathy towards narrative building and infowar with no organization or strategic impetus in the area. 2) A large population of brown sepoys, radical leftists, islamists, and communists willingly ranting on India and spreading anti-India narratives. 3) A sizeable number of unstrategic, emotional, right-wing outragers easily incited and used as agents in dividing and destroying India. Very well said. Unfortunately, this abrahamic thinking has become ingrained in Indians as well due to the still colonial education system. I see it everyday on X when people take objection to any post of mine seeing it as simply supporting or opposing one thing 100%. If I say, China can't be trusted, I become "US slave" and "always support the US." If I say US can't be trusted, I am termed as "Russian stooge." If I say we should not over consume any macro including protein, I immediately become "anti-Protein boomer." This sort of black and white thinking is radical and doesn't fit the Indian way of multidimensional thinking holding opposing views at the same time. It makes us succumb to one or the other ideology weakening ourselves.
