Tyre Nichols is going to be a big political litmus test. His death is just as outrageous as George Floyd’s, but the offending officers are now Black. Do you view police brutality as individual acts of bigotry, or as the natural symptom of a fundamentally anti-Black police system?
Neoliberals and centrists understand the issue through the lenses of interpersonal racial animosity. They won’t know what to make of Black police officers brutalizing a fellow Black man. Likewise, the media will be unable to capitalize on sensationalizing interracial violence.
@NotoriousPBG Anti-POC system within a larger culture of racism
@NotoriousPBG Both! But either way they murdered someone that couldn’t defend themselves. All skin ain’t kin! Racism and classism play together.
@NotoriousPBG If the officers had been white they would have been put on paid leave and then most likely acquitted. The only difference is that the black officers will be served justice because the blue line only goes so far.
@NotoriousPBG It's always been systemic. If it was individual, we wouldn't be learning and mourning new names every week.
@NotoriousPBG at this point, we must #AbolishThePolice
@NotoriousPBG I don't understand it. It's as if a mob mentality takes over. I haven't read of any provocation from Tyre Nichols, so were the police looking for a fight - any fight? I couldn't watch the video - simply the description of what happened made me cry. How could they do it?
