This is one of the most heart-wrenching videos I have ever seen. It shows the immediate aftermath of an Israeli soldier shooting a 7-month old Palesinian baby in the head, stealing his life. It shows that the car with the Palestinian family had stopped. Yet the Israelis shot. The father is holding his infant son in his arms as he bleeds to death from the shot to his head. It tears you apart. This is the daily life of Palestinians under Israel's US-supported occupation. You never know when you will be shot in the head. It can happen any time, for any reason. And the world approves.

With just a few days before the Men’s World Cup kicks off, thousands of fans from around the world risk being shut out of one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. Many have waited a long time and saved to pursue their dream of seeing their nations compete in the tournament. Instead of cheering from the stands, many are facing travel bans, visa denials, and threats of aggressive immigration enforcement from the US. With several participating countries subject to a US travel ban, and ongoing racial profiling and arbitrary arrests by ICE and other federal agencies, the country’s draconian immigration policies threaten to spill over into an event that is meant to bring people together - not tear us apart. At this stage, the US government no longer cares a single bit about the public backlash. They are hosting the World Cup, and they know perfectly well that their global image will be instantly sanitized and aggressively repackaged by the sheer theatrical spectacle of the event. Even the notoriously corrupt suits at FIFA understand this game perfectly well. They are currently being dragged, relentlessly harassed online, petitioned, ratioed, and begged by activists to say something, do something, and somehow defend the battered integrity of their beloved sport. But they know that the glittering product they are selling (the World Cup tournament) is completely bulletproof. They just need to quietly endure the temporary humiliation for now. Once the first whistle blows, they know that everyone will predictably move on, suffer immediate collective amnesia, and desperately channel all that righteous energy into screaming at the packed stadiums, yelling at their massive TV screens, weeping in crowded sports bars, cursing at the referees, and stressing over their multi-game betting slips. This is the intoxicating, brain-numbing power of sport, and the ancient Romans weaponized this exact bread-and-circus distraction to the absolute core. The only real, effective, and financially damaging protest against this massive PR machine is simply a total boycott. Your angry online tweets, your thoroughly researched human rights reports, your lengthy social media threads, your viral video rants, your petition signatures, and your beautifully formatted Amnesty International press releases are completely, and hilariously meaningless at this stage.
