Then you hired a gateman to protect properties worth well over ₦1 billion... and you're paying him ₦70k a month. The same chef that cooks every meal you eat and literally controls what enters your body and determines the next minute you will stay on this earth is earning ₦100k monthly. Sometimes I just sit down and wonder. You trust these people with your life and your entire wealth, yet you pay them salaries that can barely take care of them. As a northerner, I’ll be blunt here. There are not very many excellent jobs in Nigeria, especially, in the North. And the few ones that are in the public sector? They usually go to the "highly connected” people. And if you are able to get a place in the few ones that are left, you’ll only be paid a "survival wage." It keeps you afloat, but it won’t build you a future. In fact, with bills and family, it can make you poorer. If your goal is to move into the middle class, which is the most realistic goal for most of us from humble backgrounds, then your strategy cannot be: 1. Waiting only for public sector jobs. 2. Limiting yourself to just your city or state. The harsh truth is that unemployment is higher in many northern cities than it is in the south. That means your chances of landing a good job here are slimmer. As young people, we must be pragmatic in coming up with solutions. I think these 4 practical moves can help: 1. Look to the private sector - While you’re still hoping for government, go hard for private companies. They pay better. They train you faster. They expose you to bigger opportunities. 2. Be mobile - Don’t be fixated on staying in your state or town. Be open to Lagos, Abuja, PH, Kano, anywhere with opportunity. Build yourself there first. When you’ve made it, you can always come back home and give back. 3. Polish your skills - A degree alone won’t pay bills. What problem can you solve? Learn a skill. Tech, sales, logistics, content, trades. Make yourself valuable. 4. Start something small - Having a degree doesn’t mean you must have a 9-5. The goal is to have a source of livelihood. It can be a business, a side hustle, catering, farming, e-business. Start small. Grow it. Just be out and work hard. I hope we succeed.

Many people do not know that FIFA pay clubs for each player they have at the World Cup. It’s about $5k - $11k per day. So let’s say a player spends 10 days at the World Cup, the player’s club gets between $50k - $110k just for that player. Cucurella spent more than 30 days, Chelsea would be getting between $200k and $400k just for Cucurella alone. It is “per player, per day”, that’s how it’s calculated. I also think they count from the date of release, which is like early June or Late May. Also, the eligibility of a club is based on the player registration as at when the player was released. Chelsea were the ones who released Cucurella, so Chelsea are getting the money. So, Real Madrid are doing the posting, Chelsea are getting the money😭

Many people have asked how my children were able to memorize the Qur’an, so I thought I’d share our journey. This is simply what worked for our family, and I pray it benefits someone. Our children started memorizing the Qur’an from a very young age. They attended regular Tahfiz classes alongside their conventional schooling, just as many children do. However, there came a point when my husband and I felt we needed to make a bigger commitment. At the time, our eldest was in JSS 2, while the second had just completed primary school. We made the difficult decision to withdraw them from the conventional school system and enroll them in a full-time Tahfiz programme. It wasn’t because we didn’t value western education. On the contrary, education has always been important in our family. Both my husband and I hold PhDs, and some of my friends couldn’t understand why someone with my educational background would choose this path for her children. They would ask, “After all your education, why would you do this?” My answer was always the same: In shaa Allah, they can also earn a PhD one day. But before any academic qualification, I want them to have a PhD in the fear of Allah 😄 If they know Allah, understand His Book, and build their lives upon it, then every other form of knowledge becomes much easier to pursue. As a parent, that foundation also makes my own work much easier. Once we made that decision, we became fully committed to the process. Their Tahfiz school began around 6:00 a.m. and usually ended around 6:00 or even 7:00 p.m., after Maghrib. It was an intensive programme, but the school itself was very organised. They had a structured curriculum with clear memorization targets, so we always knew what each child was expected to complete within a given period. That structure made it easier for us to monitor their progress and support them at home. The school also played its part. If a child fell behind, they provided additional support. During Ramadan and some special periods, selected children would even stay overnight at the school for extra revision and memorization. Their teachers were genuinely invested in helping every child succeed. Our responsibility as parents began when they returned home. Every day, we woke them up about an hour before Fajr for revision. Those quiet moments before dawn became one of the greatest blessings in their memorization journey. When they returned from school in the evening, they ate, freshened up, rested briefly, and then around 8:30 p.m., their home mallam arrived. For about an hour, he revised and tested everything they had learned that day before they went to bed to prepare for the next morning. We also tried to eliminate unnecessary distractions. Television was almost nonexistent in our home. Sometimes we went as long as six months without renewing our subscription. My husband and I were never really television people, so this wasn’t difficult for us. The younger children had tablets for age-appropriate cartoons, but those in Tahfiz had very limited screen time. Although we withdrew them from conventional school, we didn’t neglect their academic education. Fridays were free, so we employed a lesson teacher who came every Friday morning to teach Mathematics, English and Science. Interestingly, our lesson teacher was a Christian. After some time, he said something that has stayed with me. He told us, “Whatever you people are doing must be a brain booster because these children are exceptionally good with their assignments.” That was reassuring because it confirmed that memorizing the Qur’an had not hindered their academic development. I really do not understand greed. The money you get today will not solve all your problems. I gave a security guy money to share with his colleagues. The guy in front begged me that next time, I should give everyone their money personally. One time I went to the gym and gave the security money to share with his colleagues and he put it in his pocket. I gave a nurse money at the hospital to share with her colleagues and she put in her pocket. Somebody did business with 2 friends and was meant to share commission with them, but he pocketed it. They kpaid him sha. I really do not get greed. The principle of money is simple - money that is not your own is not your own. Let everybody eat. Your problem is not special. Everyone is going through a lot and need a breather
