When you say the word "crypto" many people think "cryptocurrency" not "cryptography" which is the mathematical basis of being able to verify information that also underpins blockchain technology. Blockchains now are not just about currency. They are trust layers that allow us to anchor verifiable claims such as the claim of age based on a passport in a way that is tamper-resistant and verifiable without storing that actual data on-chain. You can think of a blockchain as "write once, never erase, but you can update." In the context of regulation that's really powerful because you can comply with laws and emerging regulations such as those in the UK and EU in a way that also respects the privacy and consent of users. The next @EFDevcon should be in the US, and the most powerful place to do it is New York. If Ethereum wants to influence real capital, real institutions, and the financial architecture that actually moves the world, then we have to step into the center of global finance. That is New York. Events in emerging markets are culturally important, and they create community. I’m very happy we did it in Argentina. But if the goal is to make Ethereum a structural part of the global economy, then we need to be present where capital is concentrated and where the biggest financial decisions are made. New York is where bankers, regulators, funds, insurers, asset managers and the biggest 500 companies are all within a few subway stops of each other. If we want them inside the ecosystem, we have to bring the ecosystem to their doorstep. Yes, some people without visas will not be able to attend. Most of our own team would not. That is a real cost. But the strategic upside is much larger. Devcon in New York would bring in an enormous number of Americans, especially those who do not yet understand what Ethereum is becoming. It would expose the protocol to the decision makers who move trillions, not millions. @EthereumDenver is not enough in order to show to the financial world why Ethereum is important. The US is huge and Denver is a city that doesn’t have big financial ecosystem. The conference was created as a place to celebrate our community. We need a conference to onboard financial players. Ethereum needs to become massive in the US. The United States is still the largest capital market in the world, the place where financial technologies get adopted at scale and where regulatory clarity can change the trajectory of an entire industry. If the goal is to push Ethereum from a niche culture to a foundational global system, then the US cannot be ignored. We have to be embraced it. If we want the US to support Ethereum, Ethereum needs to take the first step and really support the US.
