Josh's advice for new icon designers: don't limit yourself to today's tools. The constraints that shaped a decade of icon design (tiny pixel grids, limited colors) are gone. What gets built next is wide open.

Josh on why the web went homogenous: "Font Awesome kind of solved a problem (here's 60 icons everyone needs) but then everyone used them and it all looked the same." Which is exactly why packs like Mosaic exist. It’s a different point of view on purpose.

The whole concept of Chisel came from a book cover. Specifically, the stroke contrast in the typeface on it. Laura had one question: can you bring thick-to-thin stroke contrast into an icon system? Dave put it best: "AI helps you be more of who you are, not less." That was the thing we didn't expect. Instead of flattening everyone into generic output, it amplified that we need to be making strong judgments. And the folks who knew what they wanted got more of it, faster.
