O’BRIEN, ZUCKERMAN REELECTED TO SECOND FIVE-YEAR TERM LEADING TEAMSTERS The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced today that Sean M. O’Brien and Fred Zuckerman have been reelected to another five-year term as General President and General Secretary-Treasurer, respectively, renewing a mandate for powerful, militant leadership on behalf of 1.3 million rank-and-file Teamsters across North America. The O’Brien-Zuckerman Teamsters United slate was elected by white ballot at the union’s 31st International Convention in Las Vegas following a secret ballot vote of 1,572 delegates. All voting delegates were democratically elected to the convention by rank-and-file members from more than 330 local unions across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. No opposition candidates received enough votes to meet the Teamsters’ constitutionally required threshold to challenge the O’Brien-Zuckerman team. “This victory belongs to rank-and-file Teamsters. When we were sworn into office four years ago, our leadership team committed to building a bigger, faster, stronger union, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. We’ve organized more than 100,000 new members, won historic agreements including a record contract for 340,000 members at UPS, and put rank-and-file members back in the driver’s seat. The Teamsters is now the most aggressive, effective, and respected labor union on Earth,” O’Brien said. “Over the next five years, we have a lot of work ahead of us. The Teamsters face big fights at UPS and Amazon, and we are prepared to tackle those head on with the militancy and organization that has defined our administration. TEAMSTERS-LED FASTER LABOR CONTRACTS ACT PASSES U.S. HOUSE WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT With bipartisan support, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act (FLCA), a Teamsters-led bill that could become the strongest new labor legislation for American workers in generations. Just three weeks prior, the discharge petition filed by Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ, 1st District) received the 218 signatures needed to force a vote on the landmark law that would hold employers accountable for delaying first union contracts.     “The Faster Labor Contracts Act is the most consequential labor bill to come before Congress in decades. Its bipartisan passage out of the House of Representatives is a significant milestone for millions of American workers,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “The 1.3-million member Teamsters Union has worked tirelessly to build a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who are committed to improving the lives of working people. Millions of workers at Amazon and other major companies who are fed up with being overworked, underpaid, and undervalued are organizing their unions today in record numbers. We can no longer tolerate a broken system that allows corporations to corruptly drag out negotiations and shirk their legal obligations to bargain fair first union contracts. The FLCA has a real shot to right generations of wrongs and level the playing field for workers. The Teamsters are eager for the Senate to take up this urgent legislation and ensure it lands on the President’s desk.”    The FLCA would amend the National Labor Relations Act to require employers to bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form their union. Establishing a reasonable timeline for all parties to negotiate in good faith, the legislation provides a path to mediation if no agreement is reached within 90 days and a referral to arbitration to ensure first contracts can be fairly resolved.    The Senate version of the bill, introduced last year by Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), continues to gain strong bipartisan support.    “The Teamsters Union is grateful to all members of the U.S. House who had the courage to stand with workers, to put aside partisan politics, and to advance this legislation,” said Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman. “Right now, hardworking Americans are forced to wait 458 days on average for their employers to stop playing games, get to the table, and negotiate first union contracts. More than 1,700 Teamsters at Cargill Meat Solutions in Fort Morgan, Co., were locked out this morning after months of fighting for a new collective bargaining agreement. The meat processing giant has refused to offer Teamsters Local 455 members necessary improvements to wages, health care, and safety protections. Workers at the Cargill facility are critical to processing millions of pounds of beef for American families nationwide. In a town as small and tight knit as Fort Morgan, Cargill Teamsters keep the economy running. “Shame on this company for shutting out our members. Cargill can afford to give these workers a fair deal that reflects their hard work and dedication,” said Dean Modecker, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 455. “This was a disgraceful move by a company that has long taken its workers for granted. We won’t stand for it.”

More than 2,500 members of Teamsters Local 251 at Rhode Island Hospital have voted to ratify a three-year agreement that protects their Teamsters health care and includes higher wages and stronger seniority protections. The bargaining unit consists of clinical support, non-clinical, and skilled maintenance staff in nearly every department. “My co-workers and I can confidently say this agreement provides both material and language improvements that will have a lasting impact on our livelihoods,” said Kelly Smith, a 33-year Rhode Island Hospital Teamster and steward. “Teamsters set the standard in the health care industry, and we are proud to be a part of it.”
