The homeless crisis in Santa Monica, CA is getting so bad that one homeowner invented his own homeless deterrent device. Santa Monica man Stephen McMahon invented a "diversion security" device that he is using to move homeless people out of his 20-block radius. The device detects when homeless people are in the area and starts chirping with a blue light. McMahon says he uses blue light because it tricks the brain into thinking it is daytime. He also says the blue light makes it so the homeless people can't see their veins to sh**t up drugs. McMahon hopes to install the Blue Chirper throughout his entire community to drive out the homeless. "I want to push these people out of here and bring Santa Monica back to the way it was."

I want to take a second to talk about JT Miller. And I hope every kid takes this and runs with it. This video was after Game 4. Took responsibility. Took ownership. Took the heat for the game winner in the last minute. Game 5 he goes out and he scores the game winner in the last minute. I don’t know if hockey karma or the hockey gods were on full display last night, but this is so unbelievably fitting. Every legit elite player I’ve had as a coach, ownership of their game was a defining characteristic of who they were. Accountability. Ownership. Responsibility. These things MATTER. Excuses, pointing fingers, they get you nowhere. Ownership of your own development and play is a POWERFUL thing.

Further proof that Pete DeBoer is one of the best coaches on the planet. Relationships are everything, this is awesome.

COACHES: We all have our non-negotiables as coaches that we preach everyday. Little habits we emphasize in our communication and drill design for the development of our players and teams. It could be stopping at the net, calling for pucks, moving our feet, backchecking hard...all things that help to develop our players. One of my favorite coaches growing up had one that I would love to see more youth coaches really focus on in their practices. That habit? Right when you pass the puck...MOVE!!! We would be doing a small area game, and if we passed the puck and watched rather than move to get open, he would blow the drill down and make us do a somersault (he was Russian and that was typically our punishment). His point? He was teaching us how to support the puck. And how incredibly important puck support was to our success as a team and the development of our hockey sense as players. He was teaching us that the most important players on the ice offensively are the players without the puck, not the player with the puck. Over half of our team played college hockey. We won a National Championship. And I'm convinced that a big part of the reason why was our emphasis on give-and-go plays and our effort without the puck offensively. And that translates. Check out this goal from Sam Reinhart. The give to Barkov...and then the movement to find the pocket to get it back for the goal. This hockey sense and ability to get open is a big reason why Reinhart has over 40 goals already this year and is going to get PAID this summer. Great job by a great player. Get it and MOVE!

Firefighters rescued three dogs from an apartment fire last night. At approx. 19:12, an alarm company reported active fire alarms in a high-rise in the 300 block of Cumberland Street. Firefighters arrived 2min after being dispatched to the call and confirmed the alarm panel showed the alarm was triggered on the 7th floor. Firefighters quickly made their way to the 7th floor and confirmed smoke in the hallway. The fire unit was located and Firefighters advanced a hose line and made entry. Firefighters extinguished the flames in the kitchen area before they could spread. While searching through the smoke filled apartment for any occupants, Firefighters located three dogs and brought them outside. Two of the dogs were unresponsive and Firefighters began CPR on both of them and administering oxygen to all three. Both dogs were successfully revived and all three were handed back over to their owner. The fire was declared under control at 19:34. @OC_Transpo provided a bus to shelter the residents. High pressurized fans were used to ventilate the residual smoke out of the structure. The air quality was checked on all the floors before allowing residents to return. An @OttFire Investigator was dispatched to the scene. #OttNews 📸 OFS Photographer Jean Lalonde
