WOW. If you thought CPI was bad yesterday, the PPI numbers today are a shocker. April PPI inflation rises to 6% vs. 4.6% expected & 4% previous. This is the highest since Jan 2023! Markets taking their queue lower 📉

Tell me this isn't huge. Tokenised Treasuries just hit a new all-time high: $15bn. Up from nearly zero 2 years ago. Today, JP Morgan filed for a tokenized fund & last week BlackRock filed for 2. The race to put Wall St on-chain is no longer just a "narrative".

UBS predicted 40,000 US stores will close in 5 years. 8,000 stores per year. Yet, at the same time, the retail sales surged 9.6% in the week ending May 8th. That's the largest gain in 4 years. Americans are spending more than ever, in fewer and fewer physical stores.

Crypto industry pressure forced a central bank to reverse course on strict stablecoin rules. BoE had planned £20k ownership caps & required 40% of reserves to earn zero interest. Industry pushed back & said the rules would make UK stablecoins unprofitable. The BoE agreed.

The US government just agreed to pay 5% to borrow for 30 years. The last time it sold 30yr bonds at 5% was 2007. On the same day, wholesale inflation printed at 6%. Markets now price an 80% chance of a rate hike by April 2027. The bond market is sending a clear message.

Unstoppable. In 2023 Google issued no euro bonds. This year it raised €22bn in Europe alone & became the 8th-largest corporate debt issuer in the eurozone. It also tapped Japan, Canada & Switzerland. $60bn in 4 months. The US market can no longer fund the AI buildout alone

Japan's bond yields just hit their highest levels since 1997 - and this is a direct warning for the US Treasury market. Japan holds over $1trn of US Treasuries. As domestic Japanese yields become more attractive, capital repatriates home. That selling pressure pushes US long yields even higher. The US 30-year is near a 19-year high. Two of the world's largest bond markets are moving in the same direction at the same time.

Let's be real. AI stocks are eating crypto's lunch in the attention & capital economy. Today the talk of the town is Cerebras, an AI chip maker that is going to IPO. And then we have SpaceX, OpenAI & Anthropic coming to market. It's the new shiny object.
